Clan Sharks

We believe in the "simpler is better" approach to clan structure, so we have established only four levels of active Sharks and one level of inactive Sharks (Honored Sharks).

Elders, Sharks from the Depths, Shallow Water Sharks, Remoras

Honored Sharks

Check here to find out about our naming and "fin" convention.

Elders

The Elders protect and promote the Clan's ethos of fun and fair Descent II play. They are our Clan's governing body and establish the rules that all Clan members must follow. Most of the Elders are the Clan's founders. A member can become an Elder by meeting four criteria:

  1. Active participation in the Clan as a Shark from the Depths for 6 months
  2. Approval from a majority of the Elders
  3. Complete agreement with the Clan's core beliefs.  It is important to note that although the ranks of the Elders are not closed, because this is the supreme governing body of the clan, the Elders have decided that their ranks will remain small.  Consequently, promotions to this rank do not occur often and may only happen if an existing Elder leaves the clan.

From among the ranks of the Elders a Leader is chosen who acts as a sort of "president" for the Clan, representing it before other clans and players, declaring war or peace on other clans, proposing new policies, determining demotions, and casting deciding votes when necessary.

Sharks from the Depths

The Sharks from the Depths effect the Clan's ethos of fun and fair play. They settle disputes, vote on new members, arrange competitions and training, and participate in issues of leadership and overriding the Leader's decisions when necessary.

Sharks from the Depths have been Shallow Water Sharks for at least two months and have been sponsored to this rank by either another Shark from the Depths or Elder. Being a Shallow Water Shark for two months does not guarantee that one will be sponsored to the rank of Shark from the Depths.  Click here to find out about the criteria which must be met to become a Shark from the Depths.

From among the ranks of the Sharks from the Depths is chosen a "first among equals", who acts as a sort of "prime minister" for the Clan, carrying out the Leader's requests, conducting voting for the Sharks from the Depths, and casting deciding votes when necessary.

Also from the ranks of the Sharks from the Depths is chosen a Keeper of Shark records or Clan Shark Registrar and a Web Page Manager or Web Master. Both Positions are outlined below.

Clan Shark Registrar

The Clan Shark Registrar ( or CSR ) shall have the following responsibilities as they relate to new members (Remoras):

  1. The CSR shall receive all new clan applications. If the application comes from someone other than a Shark member, the CSR shall inform the person who submitted the application that only Shark members (sponsors) can submit applications. If the person claims to have a sponsor, the CSR shall contact the sponsor and verify that he/she has indeed agreed to sponsor the person in question.
  2. After one week's time, the CSR shall remind a sponsor that he/she should get feedback on his/her sponsoree from the other members to make sure there are no problems.
  3. Three days before it is time to call a vote on a Remora, the CSR shall call for feedback on the Remora. The CSR shall request feedback from all of the SWSs , SFTD'S and the Elders.  Voting shall be conducted.  For more detail on this procedure, review CS's voting procedure.
  4. Whenever a Remora is rejected by the clan, the CSR shall keep the person's name and Kali Serial Number under a separate heading entitled, "Rejected Persons". The Clan Shark Registrar shall note the date of and the reason for the rejection.
  • The Clan Shark Registrar shall have the following responsibilities as they relate to SWSs:
    1. The CSR shall inform the Leader / FIRST when a SWS is eligible for promotion to SftD one week prior to the SWS's eligibility.
    2. The CSR shall note all promotions and demotions and the dates these promotions and demotions occur in the roster.
    3. The CSR shall send a copy of the roster to the Web Master, once a month, for the purpose of keeping the web site updated.

Web Master

The Clan Shark Web Master ( or WM ) shall have the following responsibilities:

  1. Maintain and update the Clan Shark's official web site in a timely manner, including adding worthy news items.

  2. All content and additions shall be approved by the Elders.

Shallow Water Sharks

Shallow Water Sharks engage in fun and fair Descent II play. They create a enjoyable playing environment for Clan members, Remoras and visitors.

A Shallow Water Shark is voted into the Clan after a two-week "trial" period as a Remora.

Remoras

Remoras do their best to become Shark Clan members. They are sponsored by any Clan member and must fly with the Clan for a period of two weeks before being eligible for membership.

Honored Sharks

Honored Sharks are Sharks who have made such significant positive contributions that they have altered the course of the clan but no longer have the time to devote to gaming or the clan. Honored Sharks shall always remain a part of the clan but shall retain no voting privileges.
