Safari
While the high Himalayas makes up Nepal’s northern region, the southern lowland
known as the Terai is covered with dense tropical jungles teeming with diverse
wildlife and exotic birds. Here one finds some of the most exciting safari
destinations in the world. We can go into deep jungle on elephant back or four-wheel
drive vehicle to see wild animals in their natural habitats. Other thrills are canoe
rides on the jungle rivers, nature walk, bird watching excursions and village tours.
Almost all of the national parks have safari facilities
for the visitors. Of course, the most popular of them all is the
Royal Chitwan National Park
situated in my home district Chitwan. Ryal Chitwan National Park
is a well planned and developed resort destination. It includes animals like
the endangered Royal
Bengal Tigers, one horned-rhinoceros, four-horned antelope, striped hyena, bison,
Gangeti dolphin, gharial crocodile, reptiles, monkeys and bears, 400 species of birds,
the six feet tall Elephant grass, etc. One can ride elephants to see those animals plants,
and birds.
Some other popular safaries in Nepal are:
- Sagarmatha (Everest) National Park: Safari in this national park is famous
for the view of
valleys and forests, from 4200 to 4800 meters height,
full of rhododendron trees - the national flower of Nepal.
It also includes blue pine, fir and juniper forests in the lower regions.
Often, visitors will feel blesed by the sight of a musk deer, a Himalayan tahr,
a serow. One might also be able to see the Himalayan wolf and the black bear.
One must be very careful.
