My Village-Home

My dad and mom were born in Gorkha. They grew up in Gorkha and married and moved out. Then they travelled everywhere and I travelled along with them. But I always considered my first home as Gorkha. I lived there only one year of my life when I was in the third grade. Then I had to move away. Although we lived in Gorkha, our actual house was about four hours of walk and I did not like to walk. Therefore I seldom went back to Gorkha after I left that place. But I still love it and miss it. Also, it is one of the most important place of Nepal and therefore Gorkha is one of my top 5 places in Nepal.

Gorkha

Famous all over the world as the original home of the Gorkha (or Gurkha) soldiers, the small town of Gorkha is situated on a hillside overlooking the snowy peaks of the Himalaya. Gorkha is the ancstral home of the Shah dynasty and it was from here that King Prithvi Narayan Shah started his historic conquest and unification of the many scattered and feudal states, which eventually became Nepal.

Gorkha Durbar

Gorkha's most famous landmark is the old Royal Palace of King Prithvi Narayan Shah, also known as the Gorkha Durbar, is situated on the top of a hill, some 30 minutes walk from the main town. In the eastern part of the palace complex is the famous temple of Gorakhnath. Gorkha is accessible only by road from Kathmandu or Pokhara.

Manakamana Temple

Several large hills across the palace, there is Manakamana Temple, the most famous temple for it is said that whoever goes to the temple and wishes for something from the goddess Manakamana is granted the wish. Manakamana temple is at the top of a steep hill and it normally takes almost 4 to 5 hours to reach the top by foot. But nowadays, they have started the service of the "Cable Car" that has decreased the time of the journey to less than 8 minutes. But one will miss all the fun of walking and enjoying the nature in doing so. The services of luxurious hotels, restaurants, and resorts have increased the number of visitors by large.
