The current situation:

In brief, when Cordell Loken of SIM and HCJB World Radio heard that we would be having our honeymoon during this time, he jokingly said "why don't you and Jackie consider taking part of your honeymoon in Abidjan Ivory Coast with Radio ELVA!." One thing led to another, many people were contacted including Luc Bader (project manager from Switzerland), Lee Sonius (Africa regional director for HCJB World Radio), SIM short term administrators, Dave Pasechnik and Cork Loken in HCJB engineering center in Elkhart, Indiana, and Tim Welch director for SIM in Ivory Coast.

Bruno Lamy, the French broadcast engineer and country manager for Fréquence Vie, is due back to France for the family furlough this summer. They have been out of their country for two years now and must return back.

In their absence, an engineer must be present to assist when troubles occur, to restore to AIR the operations in case they go off-air for a technical reason, and to develop further broadcast centers.

We are available and well suited for the task!:

Proximity (we will be in a place for our honeymoon where the airplane tickets from there to Abidjan will be about half of the prices from the USA to Abidjan)
Daniel has worked at ELVA as a short term volunteer before and is familiar with the fundamental aspects of the station and could fit in.
Jackie has practical experience in a Saturday ministry for the last five years with slum children in São Paulo, Brazil. She also has taken Child Evangelism Fellowship courses in the past years and would love to find ways to work with children and possibly children's' programs on the radio. She also loves working with women, encouraging them and participating in Bible studies and prayer meetings. She is also good socially and could help in the guest house duties of reservations or planning.
We have this perfect time free in our schedules and are available to plug in just right in the open time slot! We could never ever have planned this better ourselves. We didn't even plan or try this ahead of time! It has just worked out this way, and is like a fantastic wonderful dream come true! We look forward to every minute of our time there being a wonderful breath of fresh air, and an opportunity to help in an area we feel strongly about as having an important outreach.

This would be also a good foundation in our marriage, and in our eye on the future. We have been asked to consider joining HCJB World Radio and working in Africa, traveling 25% of the time to countries in Africa, helping to set up Christian broadcasting systems. This is even a much bigger step, and we will keep you posted on this once our first steps are worked out.
