Process


1. This is essentially a group project. There are individual components but basically you have to make a lot of decisions and presentations as a group. Go to Group work and look at strategies for group work.

2. All members of the group need to gain an understanding of what cystic fibrosis is.

To begin this step, go to Preliminaries.


3. As a group, decide who is to take on which role.

Go to the page containing the correct role description:

Doctor
Scientist
Ethicist
Reproductive Technology Specialist







4. After considering the issues facing your role identity, present your findings to the group. At this point, you should return to Group Work and look again at the strategies for working together as a group and at ways of building consensus. Remember to consider all aspects of the issue as they relate to your role. You will need to show evidence of making contact with a representative of the role you are researching. Because this assignment is online, you should make this contact via e-mail.

You will need to present your group with an oral report and hand a written report to your teacher.

5.As a group, you will discuss the issues in relation to the big question and prepare a group presentation of your findings and recommendations to the rest of the class. Remember that the main idea is that you need to decide whether or not the Joneses should have a family and if they do, whether or not they should use genetic selection through a reproductive technology programme.
