Your final task as a group, is to present your findings to the class. The scientist, doctor, reproductive technology specialist and ethicist's views will have been presented to the group by those researching these roles. The group will have discussed all of the findings and will have come to a consensus on the big question.
A reminder about the issue:
"Mr and Mrs Jones want to have a family. However, they know that each of them carries a gene for cystic fibrosis. They have heard that it is possible for them to go on the in-vitro fertilisation programme and for their embryos to be screened for cystic fibrosis."
A reminder about the question:
"Should Mr and Mrs Jones take the risk of starting a family, and if they do, should they use genetic selection within a reproductive programme?"
Your presentation is a group presentation. As a group, you are now taking on the role of the Joneses and you must convince the class that the conclusions you have come to about the issue of genetic selection and cystic fibrosis are the correct ones. To do this, you will have to present to the class a comprehensive summary of the findings of each of the roles. You must explain to the class the conclusions you have come to as a group, justifying each of these conclusions. You may accept the bill, reject it or accept it with modifications.
This presentation must be presented in as professional a manner as possible. A Powerpoint presentation or at least the inclusion of overheads should be considered. Remember that no visual aid can stand by itself - it can only ever complement your presentation. You must still speak to the aids you use. At the end of the presentation, you must be prepared to answer questions from other class members.
