Group Work

There are four words which sum up successful group work:

Co-ordination being able to co-ordinate meeting times and places
Co-operation being able to put aside individual concerns and work together for the good of the group
Organisation being able to use time and resources wisely and efficiently
Communication being able to really listen when other group members speak and to choose your words carefully

Each member of the group should transfer the following questions into a word document and fill in the required information. This is an informal contract which makes sure that all of you understand what the group decisions are so that the likelihood of misunderstandings is reduced.Make sure that each group member has written down the same information!

Names of group members:
Who will take on which role?
What is the due date for the presentation?
When will we have our summaries written?
When will we have our role research completed?
When will our meetings be held to decide on our answer to the question?

The most challenging part of the group work will be coming to a consensus about the question of whether or not the Joneses should start a family and if they do, whether they should use genetic selection within a reproductive programme. An excellent process for this is described on Bernie Dodge's page Building Consensus.

As a group, read through the information on this site now and then again when you come together to formulate your recommendations. Discuss the guidelines and then try to follow the procedure as you try to reach a consensus.
