Diploma
profissional de Theodor F. C. Beskow (filho de August),
10/03/1880, Belgard, Pomerânia. Este documento certifica a conclusão do
aprendizado e aprovação no exame (Prüfung) de "carpinteiro
de precisão" (Tischler) tornando Theodor um
artífice/artesão (em alemão Handwerksgeselle, literalmente,
companheiro artífice; Gesellen-Prüfung que aparece no topo do
documento significa "exame para se tornar companheiro",
companheiro na guilda/confraria/ordem que regulamentava a profissão de
carpinteiro). Assim,
para se tornar um companheiro artífice era obrigatório completar o
aprendizado, que podia durar de 3 até 7 anos, e passar no exame perante a
comissão de exames (Prüfungs-Comission), tornando-se, deste modo,
qualificado e legalmente autorizado a trabalhar em seu ofício. No entanto,
isso não autorizava o indivíduo a trabalhar como empregador (mestre; Meister
em alemão), o que era privilégio de poucos e requeria um outro exame (Meisterprüfung).
Em inglês é journeyman, sem ter relação com journey (viagem),
embora pudesse viajar em busca de emprego, mas com "journee" do
francês jornada, isto é, pago por dia.

de confirmação de Wilhelmine K. J. Kohls (esposa de Friedrich
Beskow, nora de August), 18/10/1881, Picada Serrito da Colônia São Lourenço, Pelotas, RS,
Brasil. O documento prova que ela se encontrava no Brasil em 1881
(a família Kolhs veio junto com os Beskow em 1880, no mesmo navio). Atenção:
o arquivo é grande (375kb).
Certidão
de casamento de Friedrich C. H. Beskow e Wilhelmine K. J. Kohls,
17/10/1890, Colônia São Lourenço, Pelotas, RS, Brasil. Realizado na
igreja luterana. Note que nessa época ainda não havia registros civis no
Brasil. Atenção: o arquivo é grande (430kb).

In
this section are the scanned images of some documents of the family,
particularly the oldest ones that we were able to find as well as those that
have some special significance.

Professional
certificate of Theodor F. C. Beskow (August's son), 10/03/1880, Belgard, Pomerania.
This document certifies the conclusion of the apprenticeship and the
successful examination result for "finish carpenter" (Tischler)
turning Theodor into a fellow craftsman (Handwerksgeselle in
German; Gesellen-Prüfung which appears on the top of the
document literally means "examination to become a
fellow"; fellow in the guild that regulated the profession of
carpenter). Thus, to be a fellow craftsman (a journeyman) one had
to do the apprenticeship, which could last from 3 up to 7 years, and to
pass an exam before the examining commission (Prüfungs-Comission),
this way becoming qualified and legally authorised to work in his
trade. However, this did not authorise the person to work as an
employer (master; Meister in German), which was a privilege of a few and required another exam (Meisterprüfung). Journey in this context has nothing to do with traveling,
though he might do so in search of employment, but comes from the French
"journee" and means he is paid by the day.

Pelotas, RS, Brazil. This document proves that she was in Brazil in 1881 (the Kolhs
family came with the Beskow in 1880, on the same ship). Attention: the
file is big (375kb).
