Obituary for John Henry Oxford
Son of J.A. and Sidney Oxford, was born in Hardin County, llinois, March 13 1876. He was one of a large family of children, only three of whom now survive, two brothers and a sister. His mother died about the time he reached manhood and his father remarried. His one outstanding quality was his limitless devotion to his parents and to his step-mother. In his youth he was for some three years almost blind. The blindness greatly hindered him in getting an early start in securing an education, but at about the age of ten he began to recover his sight and upon entering school he made very rapid progress preparing himself for teaching by the time he was about eighteen years of age. He took up teaching at a life work and taught for a few years in the rural schools of his native county. He was converted at an early age and became a member of Rock Creek General Baptist Church and he continued a faithful member of this Church the remainder of his life. On June 3 1906 he married Lena Kennedy and they lived together happy and devoted for several years. They both taught in the public schools of Cave-in-rock, Illinois, to which system he was called as Principal in 1903 and in which position he continued to serve until 1907. In the fall of 1907 he was elected to the superintendency of the Elizabethtown, Illlinois public schools, which position he held till 1910 when he was elected superintendent of school of his native county, serving in this capacity four years. At the expiration of his term of office as county superintendent he was selected to take charge of the department of scence of Oakland City College in which capacity he served with unusual ability for ten years. His training was secured in Ewing College in the Southern Illinois State Normal School and in Oakland City College, graduating from the two last named institutions. He was a great instructor. He was more than that. He was a great teacher combining in proper proportion acdemic instruction and correct in his oral instruction but rather in the life he lived among his students, and thousands of them profited greatly from their contact with him. On August 12, 1926, while he was going from one college building to another, his automobile was struck by a train and he was instantly killed. In his untimely going the world lost a student, a teacher, a friend. On the front page of a book of poems written by John Henry Oxford

Obituary for Pharis Ann Oxford, Hardin County, Illinois
OBITUARY
Aunt Pharis Ann Oxford, one of the oldest and best known persons in our county, passed away early last Sunday morning. She died at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Charles L. Sullivan and was laid to rest in the Central Cemetery Monday after-noon. Her father owned a large tract of land where Central Church and Cemetery has been since established. She was born and raised there and wished to be laid away there. She was born 2 May 1847, when Hardin County was in her pioneer age, and she was 3 months and 17 days beyond her 87th birthday at the time of her death, 19th. Aug. 1934 Her family name was Fellows. She married Isaac Oxford in 1871 and lived in the Oxford settlement on the farm now owned by her grand-daughters, Wilma Johnson and Ima Reynolds. She was the mother of three children, William, Ida Jane and Minnie. Ida Jane died in infancy and Willie abaout 20 years ago. Her only surviving daughter is Mrs Sullivan living on the Cave-in-Rock Road, near Elizabethtown. She left 8 grand children and 8 great grandchildren and 1 great, great grandchild. She and her husband were prosperous. Isaac Oxford, was classed as the best and neatest farmer of his day and that home was kept with a care and neatness sacred, ever seen in those early days. They were members of Rock Creek General Baptist Church and attended to their relationship with the same care and punctuality that they used in other affairs of life. A few years after her husband's death she purchased property and moved to Elizabethtown, where she has lived ever since, but for the last four or five years, she has spent most of her time with Mrs Sullivan's family, where she was cared for during her final illness and death. Aunt Pharis had many warm friends who sympathized with her in her enfeebled and final illness offering any word of cheer and any help that they could. Mr. and Mrs. Sullivan spoke with no little feeling of gratefulness for those efforts of comfort and help and they wish to express their deep felt appreciation to all those kind friends for these things, as well as for those who assisted so faithfully in her funeral and burial services. She has gone, but gave with those who plighted their hope on the promise of the roles of the Holy Scriptures, and may our loss be her eternal gain. In grateful memory.

Name of Deceased: Thomas M. OZEE Name of Newspaper: Hardin County Independent Date of Newspaper: 22 November 1928
Editor of the Independent: I am sending you the obituary of Rev. T. M. Ozee as prepared and written by himself, a very unusual thing, which he gave me a few days before his demise, which sad event occurred Nov. 11, 1928. He made arrangements with me some eight years ago, that if he preceded me to the spirit land, that I and Brother W. E. Dutton conduct his funeral, and we did. The Odd Fellows took charge of the remains, which after their ritual services found a lasting place in the Willis Cemetery in Gallatin County, Illinois. Peace to the ashes of this worthy Brother Thomas M. Ozee, and heart felt sympathy for his good wife and children, and all other more distant relatives.
Andrew J. Clanton.
Obituary: The subject of this sketch, Rev. Thomas M. Ozee, the sixth son of James and Mary Ann Ozee was born in Boone County, in the state of Kentucky March the first (1) 1850. His father moved to Hardin County at about March the twenty second (22) 1853, and located on a farm where the subject of this sketch grew to manhood on his father's farm. He was united in marriage to Eliza Ann Clevenger on the twenty-third (23) day of April 1870, and to this union were born the following children to-wit: William J. Ozee, of Saline Mines, Illinois; Lillian Lee Ozee, now deceased; Martha T. Stanley of Sparks Hill, Illinois; Mary A. Jones, now deceased; James A. Ozee, of Gallatin County, Illinois; Joseph J. Ozee, now deceased; Tim Ozee, of Gallatin County Illinois; Walter Ozee, of DeKoven, Kentucky; and Nellie Lee Winn of Hardin County, Illinois. Rev. Ozee was by trade a farmer and lived most of his life on a farm. He was also a carpenter and stone mason, and for nine years was engaged in the mercantile business. His life was one of toil and hard labor and many times during his life has suffered great losses from a financial stand- point, as well as otherwise. However, he was always able to withstand the strain of such burdens by reason of the Devine Inspiration which he possessed in abundance. He was a member of and affiliated with Round Hill Lodge IOOF, having became a member of this order as early as 1885, and was a consistent and faithful member, and a regular attendant as long as his physical condition would permit, having remained in the organization for upward of forty two years. Rev. Ozee accepted Christ as his personal Savior in the year of 1893. Soon after the conversion and union with the General Baptist of this County, he at once engaged in active work as a christian and was thereafter impressed with the fact that he was called to preach the Gospel, and was, in the year 1895 at Temple Hill, Illinois licensed as a minister. At once became actively engaged in his calling, and was ordained as a full minister at Mt. Zion Church of this County September 9th. 1900. As I am writing this obituary with my own hand, I will take the liberty to say that I have always tried to do my duty as I understand it. I always loved my family and for many years have loved my God and his Christ and his Church, and have the sweet assurance deep down in my soul that he loves me. As to how well I have performed my duty in such minister of the Gospel, I shall leave to those who sit around my lifeless corpse today, and others and as my life's work is ended, and will say, farewell dear wife, farewell dear children and farewell dear friends and kindred ties. I hope that you can meet me in the morning.
Thomas M. Ozee.
P.S. It is my personal request that Rev. A. J. Clanton assisted by Rev. W. E. Dutton to preach the funeral discourse, and that Rev. M. F. Oxford preach the Memorial at the Ohio Association of General Baptist.
