I had somehow always believed that 'God' could never really be just one sex. God couldn't be just MALE or just FEMALE. I have come to believe (and basically have always felt) that God is BOTH. I see this Godhead as having Divine Masculine AND Divine Feminine characteristics. An analogy would be like this: I see God as a huge diamond, with many facets contained. Each of the facets represent a characteristic and face, and with each of these characteristics and face is a name. Thus ALL gods and goddesses are but ONE God and Goddess; And the God and Goddess are One. God is both male and female and yet neither.
Here's my reasoning: If God in Genesis created man in His image, and man is comprised both of male and female, isn't it logical to reason that God is male and female too? Thus my basic Divine assembly.
I, too, believed what the Church told me about those 'other' religions with their pathetic twisting of the 'Truth'. I always kept my opinions to myself, mostly, because I didn't want to rock their boat. I knew that God was big and mighty that NO ONE could make the Divine fit into their neat little boxes. I really couldn't understand the big fuss over evangelizing... what's the purpose? Basically it's to bring other people who never heard of your faith and convince them that theirs is an evil, corrupt, 'false' teaching and 'win' them to your point of view! How unfair to the Divine!
I believe that each man's view, concept, and image of God is a deep, PERSONAL one; one that doesn't have to fit a mold, one that doesn't have to match exactly what someone else's image is. I think God is something different to each and every one of us, from a small child to a great and mighty provider of His children to a strong and fierce protector of Her children. The God of MY understanding may not agree with the God of YOUR understanding, but it's the SAME GOD. Thus ALL gods and goddesses are but ONE God and Goddess, and the God and Goddess are ONE.
I couldn't really push away all those years of the masculinized, patriarchal religion that was around me. Instead I merged that into my basic philosophy I now hold as my basic spirituality. I really consider myself to be an ecclectic Wiccan/Buddhist/Taoist/Celtic Christian. You see, I still believe in Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (Sage); but I have merged the feminine side to it as well: Mother, Maiden, and Crone. Thus I perceive the Godhead/Divine as: Father/Mother, Son/Maiden, and Sage/Crone. It works for me, that's all I know. And the second rule in magick is: if it works, then use it, as long as it follows Rule #1!
I'm also having a hard time with Jesus' divine status. I've done some reading and research, and what I found was that in order for Jesus to be accepted as a King, he would have to assume the title as Divinity in order for the people to follow him. So that's where I stand at that.
I truly enjoy the closeness of the Divine when there is no quest for power. What I mean is that men and women can come together and experience the Divine as EQUALS. Both sexes can serve the Divine equally among them, without having to worry about any form of sexism and/or inferiority. Both male and female energies are united within the Circle to form a strong link to the Godhead. Through this union of energies, a new Life begins, bringing on a new awareness. Even in same-sex relations this union of BOTH male and female energies can be consummated. Enlightenment is not only for those who procreate, but for those who do not feel compelled to live within themselves to lie. Truth begins within. Thus being in connection with the Divine means being honest and true to yourself first.
I don't believe in the typical black/white heirarchy of most religions. I don't believe in this dichotemy because life itself is NOT black and white. It is a mixture and blending of many colors, many scents, many flavors, and many textures.
I am an initiated 3rd degree High Wiccan Priest and legally ordained minister, if that really matters. We're all fellow seekers along our paths within the Great Web. NO RELIGION HAS ALL THE ANSWERS, REGARDLESS OF WHAT PEOPLE THINK OR TELL YOU. The paths to the Divine are as numerous as stars in the sky. EACH religion has a PIECE of the Great Divine Mystery, as long as that religion's truth is based on UNCONDITIONAL LOVE and COMPASSION. By learning and studying from EACH, we can come to appreciate each idea, each perspective and each person as sacred and valid.
