Planning Pinellas County's Transportation Future
Citizens are one of several key groups whose input helps determine where federal transportation dollars are spent in the local community. As the needs exceed available funds, it is crucial to set priorities. The blueprint of the county’s transportation decision making will be the Long Range Transportation Plan, extending to year 2035. This plan addresses roads, bus and rail transit, pedestrian and bicycle travel, transportation services for disadvantaged citizens and commercial freight movement. Citizens are invited to provide their input and learn what can be done to make travel in Pinellas County more safe, easy and efficient at two public meetings:
Tuesday, Aug. 18, 4 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 19, 4 p.m. Dunedin Public Library Park Station 223 Douglas Ave., Dunedin 5851 Park Blvd., Pinellas Park All meeting facilities are ADA compliant; for assistance, call (727) 464-4062 (V/TDD) 48 hours before the event. Following these meetings, the draft will be presented to the Metropolitan Planning Organization board for preliminary approval in October and final adoption in December.
Citizens unable to attend the meetings are encouraged to visit the MPO website, send comments and complete the LRTP citizen survey available online at www.pinellascounty.org/surveys/mpo. Share ideas and concerns about transportation issues in Pinellas County and the region or learn about the Pinellas County Metropolitan Planning Organization by calling (727) 464-8200 or visiting www.pinellascounty.org/mpo.
Know Your Zone website now offers lodging info Do you know what evacuation level you live in? We know how important this information is, particularly if a hurricane threatens. You can visit Emergency Management’s website to look up your zone and check out a recent enhancement to the site. The Know Your Zone website now gives information on lodgings that are located in safer locations than where you may live. When Pinellas County issues an evacuation order, the lookup information will include a listing of accommodations located in evacuation levels higher than the ones called for, as well as lodgings located in non-evacuation zones. Visit www.pinellascounty.org/emergency/knowyourzone.htm for more details.
