Markland Medieval Mercenary
Militia is a not for profit educational organization established
in 1969 at the University of Maryland for the study, research
and education of medieval European history. Markland does it's
best as a whole to accurately portray the life of the people in
the time period known as the middle ages. |

Our goal is the proper
research and demonstration of the ideas and technologies that
our forefathers in Europe used. Since concepts cover many different
time periods, peoples and places, there are many different groups
within Markland that focus on one people or time.
Many different guilds exist to teach skills and such needed to
for authenticity. Markland as a whole has many annual events
designed to educate the public. These include but are not limited
to The Hastings Faire, and the West Windsor Renaissance Faire.
We are also known for demonstrations at local schools, YMCAs,
after school programs, and summer camp projects. Markland does
not charge a fee for any of it's demonstrations as a national
policy but does ask for donations to improve, replenish and or
repair equipment.
Most groups are located from Virginia to New York and represent
different time periods and places from roughly 410 AD to 1450
AD. These dates are only guide lines, as the definition of "Medieval"
is open to many definitions. |
