10/04/1999, Monday - Christopher's Accident.
(age: 2 years, 10 months, 15 days)
We are all suffering from colds. As a result, we have vaporizers in each of the kids rooms. And, even though we told him not to, Christopher ran in Saturday night after his bath an immediately put his hand in the steam. As a result, he now has a second degree burn between his index and middle fingers on his left hand. He cried for a while, but mostly because he was scared we'd be mad at him. After we soaked it in cool water and he calmed down, the burn didn't seem to bother him. We kept asking him if it hurt because we were afraid that if there was no pain it may be a third degree burn. He saw the doctor today and everything seems to be okay. He's just a tough kid. We just need to leave the blisters in tact to protect the new skin. You wouldn't even know he was burned to look at him.

11/5/1999 Update: His hand is completely healed. Thank you, Lord.

10/13/1999, Wednesday - Christopher + Adelaide = ???.
(age: 2 years, 10 months, 24 days)
Christopher is at an age now where he is actually making friends. When kids are very young, they're kind of oblivious to each other. Sure they play in the same room, but they're pretty much playing alone. Christopher has a friend from school named Adelaide. She's having a birthday in a couple weeks, so last weekend we went and bought her a present. Christopher is so excited about the whole thing. He carries her wrapped present around the house and even puts it by his bed at night. Occationally, he's come up to me saying "Daddy, I need Adelaide's present. Where it is?" We'll find it and he'll happily carry it off.

On Monday Christopher's preschool teacher told Tina that Christopher was always touching Adelaide during music class. Gently, it sounds like. Then he put his head down on her lap. Hmmm...

10/14/1999, Thursday - Potty By Himself. Father's Night.
(age: 2 years, 10 months, 25 days)
Christopher actually went potty by himself today. Tina heard him call from the bathroom "Mommy, help me." He had gone potty and couldn't get his pullups back on. We're getting closer.

Tonight was Father's night for both Christopher and Nicole. That made it hard for me, but I actually made it to both. See Nicole's page for her story.

Christopher made me a picture for Father's night. At the bottom, they asked some questions about his dad to see what kind of answers he would give. He said that I was 6 years old. Whenever there's a large number of anything, Christopher always says six. So, since that was the biggest number he could think of (even though he can count higher than that), that's the age he gave me. He also said I like to play trains (which is, of course, his favorite). The rest of Father's night was playing with all the centers that they create for the kids. It was fun.

10/19/1999, Tuesday - Christmas Lists With Wheels.
(age: 2 years, 10 months, 30 days)
The kids are now working on their Christmas wish lists. Christopher has also started on his birthday wish list. Lists are great. We're using them to keep them from saying "buy this for me" in the stores. Christopher asks for everything with wheels. Last night I was putting on his Batman pajamas and telling him about Batman's great car. He would "Oo" and "Ah" at every description, then at the end he said "Daddy, put that car on my list."

10/31/1999, Sunday - Halloween. Partry. Trick-or-treat
(age: 2 years, 11 months, 11 days)
Christopher dressed up as Thomas the tank engine again this year. He loves the outfit. This year his school friend, Adelaide, held a birthday party. It was a lot of fun. Nicole was invited as well and they wore their costumes. At the party there were pumpkins cleaned and ready to carve, they did a pumpkin pinjata, had spider and ghost crafts and a magic show, plus take-home gifts. The kids really had a lot of fun.

This evening I picked up some friends kids and took them trick-or-treating with ours. Our block is fun because we've gotten to know a lot of people. Christopher was really into it. He'd run well ahead of the other kids and up to the house yelling "Trick or Treating!"
