6/02/1999, Wednesday - Potty Training
(age: 2 years, 6 months, 13 days)
Christopher has been interested in sitting on the potty lately and asks to quite often. Today, however, something actually came out! And it really surprised him too. We're slowly on our way.

6/11/1999, Friday - Bedtime, Alarms and Thunder
(age: 2 years, 6 months, 22 days)
Tina and I were relaxing in the living room, shortly after the kids were in bed last Tuesday night. Then we heard Christopher in the hallway. He was yelling "Sissy, Sissy. I need to find Mommy. Sissy, I'm going to find Mommy." I don't know why he thought he had to inform Sissy, but he made it to the livingroom and found us. He went up to Tina and said "I need to sit on the couch with you." and proceeded to climb up. We hugged him a bit and then Tina took him back to bed. Nicole didn't seem to be disturbed by this incident.

It got to be late and the kids were asleep. Tina and I began preparing for bed ourselves. I don't want to incriminate her, so I won't tell you who set the burglar alarm. I was back in the computer room making a final e-mail check. Tina was coming down the hall from the livingroom when all of a sudden the alarm goes off. It is VERY loud. The siren is right in the hall. I headed to Christopher's room and scooped him up from the middle of the room as he cried. Tina headed back to the kitchen to turn off the alarm. I then ran towards Nicole's room. She had a look of terror on her face and was running around in the hallway trying to decide whether to run out the front door or grab me. She chose the latter.

It took quite a while to get the kids settled down. Christopher kept repeating "There's no fire. No fire trucks outside." He then remembered back when the alarm went off at the Q health club and the fire trucks did come. Nicole was shaken and needed lots of hugs. We read stories, laid down with them and comforted them. We put them back down several times and Christopher even slept with us for a short while. It took some doing, but they did finally sleep in their own beds the rest of the night. Whew!

We've been having some evening thunderstorms. We try to reassure the kids as much as possible, but they still get scared. Christopher tries to be brave and help everyone out by saying something like "It's okay, Sissy". Since the storms last night continued passed bedtime, I laid down with Christopher in my bed. At one of the larger cracks of thunder, Christopher climbed over me and dropped to the floor. I grabbed him and told him everything was okay. He replied with "I have to go tell Mommy". I told him Mommy would be okay and pulled him back onto the bed. We both then fell asleep.

6/15/1999, Tuesday - Being Thankful, Train Talk, more...
(age: 2 years, 6 months, 26 days)
At the dinner table on Saturday, Tina asked the kids for one thing they were thankful for. I love the responses to these kind of questions. Christopher's response was "I love Daddy's home." That makes me want to skip work! (Nicole's response)

As most kids do, Christopher sometimes lives in a fantasy world. At that same dinner, Christopher jumped into his train world. We overheard him saying " 'We'll catch him. We'll catch him' puffed Edward." He was telling a whole little Thomas the Tank Engine story to himself.

Early Monday morning as I was getting ready for work, Christopher woke up and climbed into my side of the bed. After I was ready to go I went up to him and said good-bye. He sat up and asked "Why are you going, Daddy?" Another reason to skip work. I like that he asked 'why' and not 'where'. He doesn't care where I'm going, just wants to know why I have to leave. I explained that I had to go to work to make money for food. He laid back down and I came in to work.

6/17/1999, Tuesday - More About The Potty. Hot Chocolate.
(age: 2 years, 6 months, 28 days)
Christopher has really been doing well going potty lately. He's still in diapers, but he's actually starting to understand how to let stuff out when he's sitting on the toilet. He still needs to figure out when to go. He usually just uses the toilet when it's convenient or he thinks it will be neat to try. Not when he actually has to go.

He's also been fasinated with other toilets as well. We've been remodeling our master bathroom, so we've been frequenting the home improvement stores. He always stops at the toilets and wants to look in or put the lids up and down. It's actually pretty cute.

On a different subject. Tina was talking with Christopher the other day and they started making silly eyes at each other. All of a sudden, Christopher just stared straight in her eyes, moved close to her face and said "Hot chocolate!". It's so funny because we haven't had hot chocolate for months and I'm not even sure if Christopher knows what it is.
