04/09/99, Friday - Greeting Me At Home, Cousins Visit
(age: 2 year, 4 months, 20 days)
Christopher has been really excited to see me come home from work the last couple weeks. Yesterday I came home from work and he ran up to me, gave me a big hug, and said "Daddy! I'm glad you're back." This morning I didn't leave for work until after he was awake (unusual these days), and he came up to me again and said "I'm glad you're here."

This last week my brother and sister and their families came to visit. They both live hundreds of miles away in opposite directions, so we don't get to see them very often. My brother has a girl a little older than Christopher and my sister has a girl a little younger than Nicole and another the same age as Christopher. It was a house full of kids. The kids have really been playing well together, considering the number. They all love to swing and so there have been some arguments over the three swings in our back yard.

The kids enjoyed two Easter egg hunts. Christopher and Nicole have actually had a couple more that happened before the cousins arrived. The hunt the ladies put on in our yard was cleverly organized. Each child was assigned a color of plastic egg for which to look. That way they all ended up with the same number of eggs and we could customize some of the egg contents to the particular child. It was a lot of fun to watch. You would also hear the occational shout like "Nicole, here's one of your eggs!" from one of the kids.

04/15/99, Thursday - G.I. Christopher (haircut)
(age: 2 year, 4 months, 26 days)
Christopher got his hair cut yesterday (Nicole got a trim). He's ready for summer now. We gave him a buzz cut. You can call him G.I. Christopher now. He's really cute and fun to pet too! We had trouble even last year with Christopher getting sun burns where his hair was parted. This year we're prepared. Tina got a spray on hair sunscreen. We'll see if it works or not. Hopefully it will. If it does, Dad, you could use it! ;-)

04/23/99, Friday - Growing Tall
(age: 2 year, 5 months, 3 days)
Christopher really seems to be growing up and slimming down. I measured him the other day because I mistakenly thought it was his 2½ birthday. That's actually next month. Anyway he was 36 13/16" tall and weighed 35 pounds. He's grown more than an inch just since his 2nd birthday.

He is still nuts about trains. The other day I came home and he had a catalog with all the Thomas the Tank Engine toys in it. He began begging me for "Mavis" (an engine). He kept talking about wanting all the toys for his birthday. We haven't even mentioned birthdays for a while and his isn't until November. Anyway, we had to take the catalog away because he was obsession too much over it. Now that it's gone, he's really been playing nicely with the trains that he already has. I like spending time just watching him drive them around and using his imagination.

04/26/99, Monday - Hitches, Butterflies, Obeying (not!)
(age: 2 year, 5 months, 6 days)
As you know, Christopher loves trains. In fact, he can turn anything into a train. He'll line up cars and push them together as though they're hitched like train cars. He loves connecting things. Now he's noticed that some cars have hitches on the back. I think Mommy has explained what they are for. Anyway, now whenever he sees a hitch he'll say "That car needs a boat." Obviously, I think Mommy told him that car hitches were for pulling boats.

You know how kids seem to always start in the middle of a sandwich and keep eating unto each end touches their ears and they have peanut butter spread into a smile across their face? Well, the other day Tina watched Christopher eat a bagel that way. He ate through until the two ends were attached by must a thread. He then proceeded to wave the two ends saying "Look Mom, a butterfly!"

Friday night Christopher kept asking me "What'd you do at work, Daddy?" At the supper table we told the kids not to interrupt us as we talked. Christopher didn't obey and kept asking me the same question. After a bit, Tina spanked him telling him to stop interrupting. He pouted for a couple of minutes. Then he got out of his seat at the table, came right over to my side and, while keeping an eye on Tina, tapped my arm and whispered "What'd you do at work, Daddy?" We had to cover our mouths to keep from laughing. It was too cute to be punishable.

04/29/99, Friday - Down the Drain
(age: 2 year, 5 months, 9 days)
I gave Christopher a bath last night. Everything was fine and eventually the time came to get him out. As usual I had him put the toys away and I pulled the plug. When I turned around to grab his towel, it was gone. So I had to leave the room for just a moment to get a new one. Christopher immediately got agitated and called for me to get him out. I wrapped him in the towel and asked him what was wrong. He said "I don't want to go down there", pointing to the drain. The poor guy thought he'd go down the drain with the water.
