July Photos!

07/04/2001, Wednesday - Fourth Of July, Missing Daddy
(age: 4 years, 7 months, 14 days)
We saw our fireworks last night on the 3rd. A radio station sponsors these. It's nice because you can sleep in the next day. The kids really enjoyed it. I heard lots of Oos and Ahs.

Last weekend I was putting Christopher to bed and he looked up at me and said, "I'm going to miss you when you die." I don't know what prompted that, but I assured him he didn't have to worry and we'd see each other again.

(age: 4 years, 7 months, 21 days)
Yesterday a conversation got started about moving. As I understand it Tina talked to someone about a friend's move and Christopher heard them. He then told Mom that "If I moved anywhere, I'd move to Granddad's house."

Also yesterday, after watching "The Book of Pooh" on Disney television, Christopher went proudly to Mom and proclaimed, "I know how to spell 'BOOK'! P-O-O-H!" Tina praised him for learning how to spell POOH and showed him the two words were very similar. Then Tina asked him if he wanted to write it down. He did and did a wonderful job of it as well. He also told me the other day that he was learning to read street signs. He seems very proud about learning how to read.

Are any of you playing "Slug bug. No tag backs."? Or how about "Cruiser Bruiser"? That's the big thing with all the kids down here. Whenever they see a Volkswagon Beetle they yell "slug bug...". Whenever they see a PT Cruiser, they yell "Cruiser Bruiser". They keep track of how many they've seen, etc. I can tell it's going to be a long drive to Colorado in August. ;-)

07/17/2001, Tuesday - First Child Named. Reading Paint.
(age: 4 years, 7 months, 28 days)
Yesterday Christopher was playing with one of his Buzz Lightyear toys in the van. He told Mom, "I'm going to call the kid that comes out of me Buzz." Tina confirmed that he was talking about his own child and also that, if the first one was a girl, he'd wait for the first boy.

Tina has been doing lots of painting around the kitchen and the rest of the house. At lunch yesterday, she and the kids ate with a paint can in the middle of the table. Christopher looked at the can and said, "RALP, does that say Ralp?" He was reading the Ralph Lauren brand where the 'h' had been covered in paint. Christopher has been able to read a few well known words like "Mom", but this, I believe, is the first unknown word that he's sounded out himself!

07/20/2001, Friday - When Daddy Dies. Dressed Animals. VBS. Good Comments.
(age: 4 years, 8 months, 0 days)
Here is something Christopher said to his mother. "When I grow up and daddy dies, you can be my <pause, thinking> mother?"

Here is something else Christopher said. I believe they were in the van at the time. "When daddy dies, I can sit in the front seat!"

Christopher used to dress his stuffed animals in Pull-ups. We ran out of pull-ups, so now they've grown up and wear Christopher's underwear. They actually fit quite well on this size of stuffed animal.

This week Christopher is finishing his third Vacation Bible School. Christopher's preschool is sponsered by a church and other friends attend other pre-schools, so that's how we get connected to all these VBS programs.

Tina attends a Bible study that has a baby sitter for Christopher. Tina overheard the baby sitter's mother telling that her daughter really likes Christopher because he runs right up to her and starts talking away. Lots of personality. Christopher's Sunday School teachers often comment on how good he is, how he listens to the stories and asks good questions. We're quite proud of him.

07/21/2001, Saturday - Choking.
(age: 4 years, 8 months, 1 days)
We're trying to teach Christopher not to put so much food in his mouth when eating. This morning he put so much food in his mouth that he started choking. It scared Tina and me and we jumped up and Tina yelled, "spit it out, spit the food out". He didn't so I prepared to do the Heimlich but finally he did spit some out. When we asked him why he didn't obey he said, "Because I'm hungry." He still wanted to eat it all.

07/22/2001, Sunday - Drawing Skills.
(age: 4 years, 8 months, 2 days)
Christopher drew some wonderful pictures in Sunday School. One was of Daddy holding Christopher. The other was of Mommy holding Nicole. He has really improved his drawings lately. It's fun to watch him explore his talents.
