Story :)
The story is set in Tokyo 1982. Taeko, a single woman with a desk job is taking a vacation to the countryside where her sister-in-laws family is. The family's business is dyeing from dyes that they make from the flowers they grow. During her train trip there, she thinks back to 1966, when she was a young girl and the problems she encountered etc.. Towards the end of the anime, she has to make some very important and tough decision concerning her future. It's em.. something to do with a proposal from a guy she met in the countryside.

The two periods are blended quite well in the anime. (though i couldn't really catch it in the beginning) The scenery is more of highlands - mountains and valleys. The art is ,as usual, beautifully drawn and detailed. The problem of young people's preference of the big cities and leaving the countryside (if i recall correctly) is brought up in the anime.
Omohide Poro Poro (1991) is the work of director Takahata Isao. His other works include Grave of the Fireflies In all, it is a very well animated anime. However, i think it is more for older audiences. It can be confusing to young children. (esp. the switch between the 2 periods.)
