Of Vertigo and Loyalties, Part Twenty-Six!
A mystifying blue van with green trim slowed to a stop in front of a strange part of CBR where the halls had suddenly turned into deserted streets, complete with curbs, sidewalks, lawns full of dead grass, and trees with no leaves on them dotting the landscape. "This is strange," Fenris commented. "It's always strange as you approach the Vertigo Board," Papergirl explained. "Reality just seems to bend here, as if crafted by an unseen writer." "Well, we're here," Wolvie*s Girlfriend remarked. "We'd better get moving. Is that the right room?" She pointed ahead towards a door that connected with resembled an odd-looking apartment complex. The sign on the door read "VERTIGO AHEAD". The rhythmic beat of Moby's "South Side" seemed to be coming from one of the windows. "Yes, that's it," Papergirl admitted. "Have we got any moderators with us here?" "Why?" asked Expletive Deleted. "I thought a Moderator Gun might come in handy." Expletive Deleted gave her a look of disbelief. "Are things really that bad? Do we have to resort to that kind of force? I thought Jack Tango was poisoned, not killed." "It was attempted murder," Papergirl asserted. "I'm taking this very seriously." Expletive Deleted sighed. "Okay..." He looked around the van. "We have Wolvie*s Girlfriend, you, me, Sir Tim Drake, Fenris, and that's it. Sorry, no moderators." Papergirl looked disappointed. Expletive Deleted looked disappointed in Papergirl. She seemed to pick up on this vibe from the rest of the group as well, and seemed to want to explain. But how could she explain her conflicting sense of loyalties? On the one hand, she had trusted howyadoin, and on the other hand there was her loyalty to Jack Tango and Jack's Cult. Howyadoin had betrayed her trust, and deserved some sort of punishment. "Let's go," was all she said. The intrepid five ventured forth from the van and approached the door of what now looked more like a log cabin than an apartment complex. "What is this, The Matrix?" asked Expletive Deleted. "Keep your wits about you," Papergirl cautioned. "This could be dangerous. Fenris, bust down the door." "Can't we just open it?" asked Sir Tim Drake. He turned the doorknob, and sure enough, the door was unlocked. "Oh," Papergirl blushed with embarassment. "Silly me." Papergirl entered first, confident that since she had just been here recently she would know what to expect inside. Suddenly the five saw Aussie Boy Peter headed towards them. He was happy to see them, and was telling them that Golden Lion, Greg Hatcher, Slick and the rest were already inside, waiting for them to show up. He had been sent to find them, and boy, had that been an easy job! He directed them all towards the entrance...
