Of Secret Writings, New Plans, and Team-Ups! Being Part 25

I cannot end this moment of my life…
Show me How the Gods Kill…

Demonicuss softly sang to himself as he sat beside the NEB entrance waiting for DeMonStar to finish sweeping it for traps. Gee, perhaps the only hope to get out of this whole mess is the bad guy I created. Demonicuss thought to himself. If that’s the case, we’re all screwed. He knew that DeMonStar wasn’t to be trusted completely, he created him to be incredibly sneaky, finding opportunity where others wouldn’t dream to look. Possibly one of the greatest villains ever, and he decides to be my bodyguard, something has to be rotten in Denmark.. He knew that DeMonStar wouldn’t lie, but he would be willing to tell a half-truth. If DeMonStar said that a dead Demonicuss would mean a dead DeMonStar, Demonicuss would believe him. But what if there was something else that DeMonStar kept hidden to himself? He just wanted this whole thing to be done with.

In the core of the NEB, DeMonStar stood over a computer. He knew that he had to keep his writing subtle, so the change wouldn’t go unnoticed by Demonicuss when, or if, he resumed his writing duties. As he typed, he hoped that this change would work. As he hid his little note on the NEB’s databanks, He decided to take one last look at his surroundings. As he looked, he noticed a small black thing. Perhaps this could be a clue…

Demonicuss stopped singing when DeMonStar walked out of the NEB. “Find anything in there?”

“Perhaps. This thing. Can you identify it for me?”

In DeMonStar’s great hands was a small black cell phone. “It’s a cellular phone. Perhaps one of the perps dropped this during the fight.” Demonicuss reasoned. He turned it on and hit the redial button “DeMonStar, can your WristCom trace this call?”

DeMonStar connected the phone to his WristCom as it started dialing.

“Yeah, about time you called in. How’s your status? What’s going down? Is your subject ready to kill Greg Hatcher?” A gruff voice replied.

Demonicuss listened to the phone, the words sinking in. Whoever these guys were, Greg Hatcher was next on their hit list. “DeMonStar, you have their location?”

“I believe so, though I have no idea to its location on this compound.” DeMonStar pointed to a blip on the CBR map. “That’s the Vertigo board,” Demonicuss whispered. “The goons must be there!”

“Then that’s where we will go. Once we find the one responsible for this, perhaps I could get back to BrimStar.”

Demonicuss got a wicked grin. Time for a little bravado. “I know who you are, and I know what you're doing,” He snarled into the phone. “Your time is up, prepare to pay the price!”

“Is this like the ‘Wazzup’ thing? I haven’t seen any new commercials. How does it go again? Or should we just go ‘Wazzup’ over and over?”

“Uhh, nevermind.”

Demonicuss hung up the phone. “Well that didn’t work the way I figured. Doesn’t matter, we’ll take them down easy.”

“We?” DeMonStar looked down at his creator.

“Okay, mostly you, but I am a decent fighter.”

“Well then, let’s go to the Vertigo Board.”

“Not just yet,” Demonicuss replied. “I’m going to call Z up and let him know where we’re heading. If he got away from Z-Mage, he’ll bring backup.”

DeMonStar watched as Demonicuss called up Z-Mage.

“Z-Mage here.”

“Hey Z, it’s Demonicuss.”

“Damn, Demon! Good to know you’re still with us! So you got away from DeMonStar, huh?”

“Not really. He’s right next to me, acting as my bodyguard.”

“What!”

“Look, DeMonStar wants to get back home, and he thinks that by finding the goons responsible for poisoning Jack he can get back. He’s keeping me alive because if I die, he’ll die as well.”

“Weird. So where you heading?”

“To the Vertigo Board. That’s where the baddies are at. Get some Rumblers with you, and meet us there.”

“Already on my way with AussieBoyPeter. Anything else?”

“Yeah, Greg Hatcher’s in danger. The goons are going to get someone to kill him.”

“I know about that. They tried to brainwash Pete, but they failed. I think they have another brainwashed sap ready to act when someone says ‘nifty’.”

“Brainwashing. Freaking twisted, Z. Speaking of freaks, you know where that evil wizard is?”

“Nope. I just know he’s not anywhere nearby.”

“Nuts. He could be a major problem. Stay frosty, pal.”

“You too, Demonicuss. Good luck kicking the baddies ass.”

Demonicuss hung up. “Let’s go.”

As they ran down the halls, Demonicuss spotted Slick, Golden Lion, Pulse, and Greg Hatcher near the exit of the NEB compound. “There’s Greg! I need to warn him! Come on, DeMonStar!”

“They’re too far off. You won't be able to catch up with them.”

“How the hell can we reach them?’

“Simple. You won’t run.”

“Huh?”

Before Demonicuss could react, DeMonStar scooped him up in his arm, and then sped towards the group. Have to admit, I made him fast, Demonicuss thought.

------------------------------------------------------------

“Still can’t believe Papes is behind it all,” Greg said.
“Ook ook,” Pulse said as he tried to cheer Greg up.
“Well, come on. Let’s stop her.” Golden Lion said.
”Greg!”
“Hey, you hear something?’ Slick asked.
“What?” Golden Lion replied.
“I don’t know, sounded like ‘Meg’ or something.”
”Greg!”
“Never mind, it was Greg” Slick said.
“Who’s saying Greg?” Golden Lion asked.
“Ook!! Ook, ookk!!!!!!!”
"Man, Pulse’s freaked out! Wonder what got his tail in a twist?” Slick wondered.
“Maybe it’s the big red thing running towards us very fast!” Golden Lion yelled.
”Greg!”
They turned to see that monster from the Lecture Hall battle barreling towards them. They saw he was holding someone with him who was yelling “Greg!”
“Run away!” Slick yelled.
“Forget it, the monster’s already here.” Golden Lion pointed out.
“Aww crap!”
“Hey, it’s Demonicuss!” Greg Hatcher noticed the poster tucked between the monsters arms.
“Greg!” Demonicuss yelled as the monster let him go. “Your life is in danger!”
“Well duh! You led that monster-thing right to him!” Slick yelled.
“No, he’s on our side!”
“What?”
“Ook?”
“Gentlemen, calm down.” DeMonStar spoke in a voice so powerful, everyone stopped and turned to look at him.
“Thanks, DeMonStar. Look Greg, the baddies have..”
“The baddies?"
“The goons responsible for all this crap, Slick.”
“Oh.”
“Greg, they’re after you. They’ve got someone brainwashed to kill you!”
“Brainwashing! How low can they get!” Golden Lion yelled.
“Demonicuss, Pulse here said that Papergirl’s one of the ‘baddies’,” Greg said.
“Papes is one of the bad guys! I don’t believe it.”
“Ook!”
“Yeah, well, we’ll just see. We have to get to the..”
“.. the Vertigo Board, we were just heading there ourselves.”
“Let us come with. I’m sure we’ll stop them.”
“Demonicuss, have you any idea how these things work?” Slick said. “We get to the bad guys headquarters and we’ll get captured! Haven’t you ever seen Scooby Doo?”
“Well,” Demonicuss countered, “We have something they won’t expect.”
“What?”
“Him!” Demonicuss pointed to DeMonStar.
“The fictional villain! Why should we trust him?”
“Mister Hatcher, there is a good chance the one responsible for trying to kill you is also responsible for bringing me here.” DeMonStar spoke. “I’m willing to aid you in finding this bastard and making him wish he ever thought of me.”
“Okay, Demonicuss, DeMonStar, let’s head over to Vertigo!” Pulse cried as they all ran off into the night.
Oook! Ook, ook ook, okk! Pulse panickly thought. All was going so well, until Demonicuss and that monster DeMonStar showed up! How will the plan succeed with that thing down their back! He’d had to send info to the boss, post-haste!
