From Potions to StatuesIstar's TruthThis potion was used in the courts of Istar to ascertain the truth in matters brought before the Kingpriest of his appointed ministers. ![]() Scroll of the Stellar PathA powerful magic on the scroll of the Stellar Path confers the favor of the gods of magic upon the user. Since the magical powers of the wizards of Krynn wax and wane depending upon the position of the moons in the sky, only rearrangement of the cosmos can bring additional power to a wazard during a time of disadvantage. This is the purpose of this scroll. Staff of Striking/CuringCommon amoung the clerics of the Age of Might, these devices were most often used as protection for the cleric on journeys, and as a means of furthering the wills of their gods. Diviner of LifeThe Diviner of Life was used during the Age of Might by commanders who wished to determine the general condition of their troops. After first finding his troops top condition during a long rest, the general could get a good view of his troop's degree of readiness by referring to this baton. Brooch of ImogThis is a reward given to mages who serve the elven realms. It can grant the owner the blessing of magical protection. None have been forged since the Cataclysm. The Medallion of FaithSince the return of the gods in the Age of Dragons, all true clerics have recieved medalions of faith as outward signs of their inner commitment. These medallions can create other medallions of faith for clerics who profess faith in the true gods. The medallions of faith have no powers other than creating more medallions. All clerics of the true gods wear their medallions at all times.Flute of Wind DancingConstructed by sirens in the depths of the sea, these flutes were given long ago to mariners who had performed some great service for the siren kingdoms below the seas. Much prized, the flutes often found their way into the royal courts of the land. These flutes have a limited ability to control breezes and winds.Glasses of ArcanistThe solid platinum frames that these magical lenses are set in are so narrow that the glasses will only fit on a kender or an elf. The Glasses of Arcanist were designed by the mage Arcanist centuries before the Cataclysm. The glasses enable their wearer to read all writings, rendering a perfect translation of any topic in any language. Magical scrolls and spell books can also be read using these glasses. Though the glasses do not allow non-spell casters to cast spells, they do enable a low-level caster to cast higher level spells from scrolls, with no chance of failure. Golden CircletThe golder circlets were created in Istar toward the end of the Age of Might. Designed to guide people into aiding the church, their use tended more toward slavery than service. Despite this, they could only be used by one of good desires, so their abuse was somewhat limited. Many of these survived the Cataclysm, though they are guarded most carefully.Keys of QuinarostCreated for the royal family of Silvanost, these ancient keys provided the only known way to enter the tower at the center of the city. Each of the members of that household had a key. WebnetThe webnets are spun by wizard of the Dimernesti. As delicate and beautiful hair ornamants, they are most sought after by human women on land, but their true powers are known only to wizards. Webnets are useful only to magic-users, though they can be worn as a hair ornament by anyone. When worn by a mage who knows the command word, the webnet can be cast to the ground before a foe, or directly at one. It then instantly grows to a large net of entrapment. Singing StatueCreated during the most powerful days of Istar's priests, these relics of Mishakal were often used to gprotect temple complexes. They not only opened doors that were magically locked against unbelievers, but they also had additional powers to aid the clerics of the Healer. Armor and ShieldsDragonarmorThis armor has been used by the forces of the Queen of Darkness throughout the many ages of Krynn. Made up of a padded tunic and leggigs with a plate mail breastplate and shoulder plates, it also has additional plates for the thighs and shins, which are attached seperately. The helm is made of two pieces, protecting the back of the neck along with the face. The design allows freedom of movemeny, protection in combat, and warmth while riding dragons at high altitudes. The Plate of SalamnusThere were several Knights whose armor was designed spicifically for them when the Knighthood was formed. These suits were the finest in the land, and the deed of their wearers are legendary. The Plate of Solamnus consists of plate brestplate, shoulder guards, arm finnings, leggings, and helm. The Order of the Rose is the prominent of the three markings of the orders on the breastplate. Shield of HumaThe shield of Huma, famed for using the original dragonlances to banish the Queen of Darkness back to her own domain, is said to have never failed him in battle. Solamnic ArmorGranted to a Knight when he first attains the title of Lord, the traditional armor of the Knights of Solamnia consits of breasplate, shoulder plating, helmet, and spurs. Each of these is engraved with the symbols of the Knight's order, and in the case of Sword and Rose Knights, any Knighthoods held previously by the Knight. WeaponsDragonlanceDragonlances are artifacts first created at the end of the early DragonWars and used to defeat the evil dragons. There were 20 surviving dragonlances hidden inside the Stone Dragon of Ergoth, 10 each of the two types. Also, more lances were forged for the War of the Lance. The two types of dragonlances are mounted and footman's. Each type is made of the same silvery metal, and each has a head sharpened to a fine edge, with small barbs protruding from the sides. How the lance performs in battle depends on how well the lance was made and under what conditions. Ideal conditions require that it be forged by a man with the Silver Arm of Ergoth and the Hammer of Kharas. Legend has it that only lances forged by these two artifacts can work propperly. Footman's DragonlanceEight feet long, the footman's lance can be cast as a spear with some dificulty; it is most effective as a hand-helf weapon. Mounted DragonlanceSixteen feet long, the mounted lance is most often wielded while mounted on a dragon. Buttressed by a harness mount which enables swift turning of the lance around it's balance point, the mounted dragonlance is ineffective on mounts smaller that dragons because of the heaviness of the lance. The mounted dragonlance acts as a normal lance if it is not mounted on a dragon. FrostreaverA frostreaver is a heavy battle axe made out of ice. This ice can only be gathered from a secret location on Icewall Glacier where tremendous pressure, exerted for centuries, has created ice of extraordinary density. The only people with the knowledge needed to make a frostreaver are the Revered Clerics of the Ice Folk (see races page). The blades are formed by using the oil of the thanoi and other ingredients to hone and flatten a sheet of compressed ice. The cleric must work for a whole month to create a frostreaver, and even then the chance for a working axe is only 33%. The blade's weakness lies in it's nature; temperatures above freezing cause the ice to melt and the axe to become worthless. ![]() MantoothThis sword looks like an ordinary long sword, though it is also know by the names of Spellcleaver, Darkstar, and Magefool. Its abilities are primarily directed at countering magic. Though its histofy is unknown, it has been among the Silvanesti elves for ages untold. NightbringerNightbringer was reated by evil mages in the Tower of Ergoth, where the power of the Black Robe wizards forged many evil weapons in the days that their kind were hunted by the church. After the Cataclysm, Nightbringer fell into the possession of Verminaard, who recieved it from other evil clerics. WyrmsbaneAn artifact from the third DragonWar, this sword was forged during the Age of Might and then lost later in that age. The need for this potent weapon was great when dragons arose after the Cataclysm.WyrmslayerThis mighty blade was the weapon of the ancient elven hero, Kith-Kanan. Forged in Silvanesti during the second DragonWar, it remained in the royal house until Kith-Kanan led hes people to Qualinest. It is said that he was buried with the sword. Wyrmslayer has the disconcerting tendency to buzz aggressivly whenever it is brought within 3" of a true dragon (not a draconian). Loud enough to be clearly heard, this buzzing always awakens a sleeping dragon. Reorx's GrinThis magical silver glaive was forged by Reorx himself, for use in the All Saints War. It was lost shortly after that war, before the Age of Dreams. Crafted to part whatever it's wielder desires, from wood to steel, this weapon was used in the Fifth Age against the evil dragon overlords. Special Magical Items of KrynnIcon of TruthThe Icon of Truth is a white marble rectangle carved into the shape of a book. Jewel encrusted, it eminates a magical aura, and is the book held by the god Gilean that symbolizes all the knowledge of the gods. Orb of DragonkindThere are only three of these powerful artifacts known to exist upon Krynn. Containing the essences of evil dragons, they are magical items of vast and dangerous power. The Orbs of Dragonkind, also known as Dragon Orbs, are etched, fragile ctystal globes that are about 20 inches in diameter when in use. When not in use, the orbs can shrink to 10 inches in diameter, expanding when the command words which are carved into the surfaces of the orbs are spoken. According to legend, the orbs were used long bofore the Cataclysm for the purpose of destroying evil dragons. These legends are common throughout the civiliaed lands of Krynn. What is known by few, though, is that the orbs' actual purpose is to summon evil dragons. Powerful mages of old would summon the dragons with the orbs, and then destroy them with powerful magic. Hamer of KharasA mighty artifact, the Hammer of Kharas (according to legend) is the only hammer that can forge a dragonlance. Twice the size of a normal war hammer, the hammer's name comes from the dwarven hero Kharas, who fought in the Dwarfgate Wars following the Cataclysm. However, Kharas is most remembered for the heroic deeds he preformed before that time. The hammer was given to him by the Kaolyn dwarves in recognition of his deeds on their behalf. Silver Arm of ErgothCreated by the good dragons, men, elves, and dwarves during the First Dragon War, the Silver Arm of Ergoth was used to create the original dragonlances, and was used again during the recent war against the Dragon Empire. Staff of MagiusMagius was a wizard of legend who aided Huma in his quests. His staff was one of the most revered artifacts, not for its powers, put in honor of the mage who used it. Although compared to other devices it seams to be of little use, many have suspected that there was more magic to the staff than met the eye. The Dagger of MagiusSix inches long, this silber dagger is carved in the shape of a dragon, with the tail as the blade. It is slender and lightweight so that it can easily be hidden upon the person of the mage. Bupu's EmeraldGiven to Raistlin Majere by the fully dwarf Bupu in the ruins of Xak Tsaroth, a legend is that, after the archmage's supposed death, the everald appeared in the pocket of a gully dwarf about to be killed by dragonians. The gully dwarf gave the everal to the draconians in an effort to purchase his life, and the emeral killed the draconians and the gully dwarf escaped. Bupu's emerald can only be used by a gully dwarf, gnome, or kender. When used in a life-threatening situation, it causes the attacker to be instantly overcome by its beauty, to the exclusion of all else. The emerald kills the attacker on contact, and can then be retrieved by its original owner. The Bloodstone of FistandantilusA powerful artifact from the early days of magic, the bloodstone is of evil alignment. A green gem flecked with red, it is about 3 inches in diameter and is set in a plain silver setting and worn about the neck on a silver chain. It can be used to sure wounds inflicted on the body by weapons. However, its primary use is to suck the life out of a victim and transfer that life force to the wielder of the gem, extending the life of the wizard. Also, it provides him with all the wisdom, memories, etc. of the person whose life he takes. Although this can be feneficial, giving the wizard additional knowledgs, it can also cause confusion and disorientation unless the wizard is strong enough to retain his own identity. Device of Time JourneyingMade during the Age of Dreams, this divice was altered in the Age of Dragons in this way: originally, the divice's use was restricted to the major races (humans, elves, and orgres) since all other races are prohibited from traveling in time. Also, it was originally designed to be used by one person only. The properties of the device changed somewhat after Gnimsh, the only known gnome in the history of Krynn whose inventions worked, altered it. From then on, the device transported more than one person and it also transported those of the minor races (kender, gnomes, and dwarves). This jeweled scepter can fold down into a nondescript-looking pendant. Since the device was essential to the return of the person using it, it had several safeguards. Anyone attempting to steel it (even kender!) immediately feels a strong revulsion to it and puts it back instantly. If lost, the device makes its way back to its owner through whatever means necessary. No force exists that can keep this artifact from finding its owner. The correct version of the chant and instructions required to transform the pendant is as follows: Holding the pendant in your hand, repeat the first verse, turning the face up to you. At the second verse, move the face plate from the left to the right. At the recitation of the third verse, the back plate drops to form two spheres connected by rods. At the fourth verse, twist the top clockwise and a chain will drop down. The fifth verse warns to make certain the chain is clear of the mechanism. As the sixth verse instructs, hold the device by each sphere and, while reciting the seventh verse, rotate them forward. The chain will wind itself into the body. Hold the device over your head, repeating the final verse, and summon a clear vision of where you want to go and what time period you want to be there.
Dalamar's Bracelet of Magic ResistanceAn ancient artifact kept in the Tower of High Sorcery in Palanthas, the bracelet was given to Tanis by Dalamar to protect him from the magic of the death knight, Lord Soth. Dalamar's Ring of HealingThese rings were often used throughout the ages as wizards' last defenses against death. Dalamar's Wand of LightningThough there have been many wands of lightning, this paticular ond caried its own curse. Because the wand was used by Dalamar to kill Kitiara, the dead Dragon Highlord unceasingly hunts for the wand and its current owner. Tasslehoff's Magic Mouse RingThis ring is made of white ivory with two red jewels that resemble the eyes of a mouse. Magical rings of this type are generally designed by apprentice wizards learning how to create magical objects, so they are relatively common among mages, and of little practical value. Undoubtedly designed by some apprentice in order to help him escape observation, and possibly eavesdrop on conversations, the magic is activated by placing the ring on the finger. The wearer instantly becomes a white mouse. In order to return to his proper shape, the wearer merely wills it so. The NightjewelBlack as an evil dragon's blood, the jewel protects any who enter Shoikan Grove, as long as they have the courage and will to use it. The Nightjewel helps to alleviate the fear generated by the Grove, though it does not cancel it completely. The Nightjewel can be used in defense against the undead who stalk the Grove, but the person using it needs to have the courage to touch the undead with the jewel if the undead attack. No other weapon can be used with the Nightjewel. Black and unlovely to look at, the Nightjewel is cold to the touch. Ic can be worn about the neck on a silver chain, but must be held in the hand, hight in the air, when entering the Grove. The character who uses the jewel must remove helm and hood so that the light of the jewel shines on his hace and in his eyes. This light can only be seen by the undead. The Nightjewel can be used by anyone, but once a weapon is drawn or a spell is cast, the Nightjewel instantly loses all power. WarbringerThis is a gigantic two-handed sword, forged during the Age of Might. The fine quality and workmanship of this sword mean that it once must have belonged to a nobleman, possible a Knight of Solamnia. Raistlin's Cursed MoneyDuring the Dwarfgate Wars, Raistlin (or Fistandantilus) made a deal with the dark dwarves to betray their king and leave the gates of the fortress of Pax Tharkas open when Raistlin's army attacked, thus assuring the wizard's victory. Raistlin paid the dark dwarves with a coffer of 100,000 steel coins. However, these coins were cursed to prevent the dark dwarves from double-crossing the wizard. If the owner of one of these coins goes back on his spoken word, the flesh of hands begins to turn black and rot away. This dread curse spell slowly spreads to the rest of the body until the victim dies. RabbitslayerCalled Rabbitslayer because of a comment that Caramon made about it, this dagger of Tasslehoff's was blessed by clerics of the ancient days, and has far more power than Tasslehoff ever guessed. The Helm of Griffon ManeDiscovered in the ruins of Xak Tsaroth, the helm was given to Flint Fireforge by Tasslehoff. The helm is of dwarven make, and is decorated with a horse's mane. Having always claimed he was allergic to horses, Flint insisted that it was from the mane of a griffon, and thus the helm acquired its name. The helm fits only dwarves.
