Gereral History of Krynn
Before Krynn was forged, there existed the gods from Beyond. It was decided that a new time and place would come to be; time would begin there again, spirits would live, and in the course of time, new power would arise. The three pillars on which the universe was forged were Good, Evil, and Neutrality, and all existed upon the great triangle, in which the pendulum would swing freely.
And so Reorx, the Forge, sruck his mighty hammer, and the sparks from his hammer became stars. And from the light of these stars came spirits of Good, Evil, and Neutrality. It was then that the gods began to fight over the spirits, the Gods of Good wanting to nurturs the spirits and share dominion over the universe with them, the Gods of Evil seeking to enslave the spirits, the the Gods of Neutrality wanting balance, giving the spirits freedom to choose for themselves between Good and Evil.
Then the All-Saints War began, raging among the heavens. The Gods of Good and Neutrality joined together to stop Evil from gaining victory. When the All-Saints War ended, it was decreed that each order of Gods would be able to grant one gift to the spirits.
The Gods of Good gave to the spirits life and physical form, so that the spirits could gain control over the material world. They hoped that the spirits would bring peace and order to the world.
The "gift" of the Gods of Evil was that theses beings would hunger and thirst, and thuse have to work to satisfy their needs, hoping to subjugate the races through hunger and suffering.
The Gods of Neutrality accomplished their objective, giving the spirits the gift of free will, and thus preserved the balance.
Then, the Gods created the world of Krynn as a home for the physical spirits.
Many were the races that came from the spirits that had awakened. The first were the elves, the embodiement of good. The are the Shapers of Krynn, using good magic to form nature. Though they have the longest life spans of all the spirits, and change the world, they fear change, and thus change little.
Favored by the Gods of Neutrality, humans can choose freely between good and evil, and this the gods of these two orders both covet them. Though their lives are comparitively short, they are like a short, quick, yet brilliant flare of light, for in their shout time on the world they stive for power and knowledge. Thus they give the world motion.
Most favored by the Gods of Evil are the ogres. The ogres, in the begining, were the most beautiful of the races, but they could think of naught but their hunger, and their greed devoured them; their beauty disappeared.
The last class to come about was the animals, created with a balance of Good, Evil, and Neutrality. Born of the world itself, dragons are the masters of the animals, free to choose among the three alignments.
The Law of Consequence
Each alignment of the universe harbors its own philosiphy, and these are the roots for all moral actions of Krynn.
- Good Redeems its Own This law shows that the Gods of Good seeks to advance the universe by redeeming the members of its flock, and bring advancement through compassion and justice.
- Evil Feeds (or Turns) Upon Itself This law shows up in Evil's belief in the weeding out of the weak, and that Evil will, often times, quarrel with its own members to further its own ends.
- Both Good and Evil Must Exist in Contrast This shows Neutral's goal, that neither Good nor Evil should ever gain complete dominance over the other, least the universe be all light or all dark, without any contrast to bring focus or purpose.
- The Law of Consequence For every law and rule obeyed there is a reward and blessing; for every law broken there is a punishment. Though these may not occur immediately, they will inevitably come about.
The Ages of Krynn
The first age of Krynn was the Age of Dreams. It lasted for an untold span. The Age of Light followed, and was an era of peace and learning, during which Silvanesti was a beacon of civilization throughout Krynn. The Age of Might indicated humanity's rise upon Krynn. Spreading accross the world, humans brough their energy and confidence to all of Krynn. The Age of Might lasted from many hundreds of years, untill the energy and arrogance of man resulted in the Cataclysm. Then, the Age of Darkness came. When the Dark Queen returned in part to the world, and the banished dragons were once again awakened, the Age of Dragons came about, which led through the War of the Lance and into the War against Chaos. This bitter war ultimately resulted in the departing of the gods, and of magic as it was known. Thus the last, fifth age began. The Age of Mortals.
