 | Keyboard Shortcuts |
Here are three keyboard shortcuts you should know :
Alt-Shift-Tab
You may already know that Alt-Tab cycles you through open programs and windows,
but Alt-Shift-Tab cycles you backward through the same list. It's a useful option if you
have lots of applications open at the same time.
Shift-Right-click
If you'd like to open a file in a particular application other than the one it's
associated with, don't waste time opening the application first, then using that program's
Open command. Instead, hold down Shift as you right-mouse-click on the already selected
file icon. Select Open With, choose the application in which you'd like to open the files,
and click on OK.
Shift-Delete
Typically, selecting an item and pressing the Delete key sends it to the Recycle
Bin (after you click on Yes to confirm that you actually want to send the item there). To
bypass the Recycle Bin altogether, hold down Shift as you press Delete.
 | Microsoft Windows 95 development team (Easter Eggs) |
There are number of different ways you can view the Easter Eggs.
- To activate the Easter Egg that displays the Windows95 Product Team, simply create a
folder with the following name (without the quotes):
"The Microsoft Windows 95 Product
Team!.{869DADA0-42A0-1069-A2E7-08002B30309D}" and double click the folder.
Note: There's no space between "." and "{".
- Right-click anywhere on the desktop and select New|Folder. Youll have to rename
the folder three times to see this Egg: first name it "and now,
the moment youve all been waiting for"; then press F2 and name it "we proudly present for your viewing pleasure"; then again
press F2 and name it "The Microsoft Windows 95 Product Team!".
Now double-click on the folder.
- While at your desktop, press [F1] to display the Help Topics: Windows Help dialog box.
Click on the Find tab to get the see the appropriate dialog in the Help dialog box.
Click the 'Options...' button, then select the 'All the words you typed in any order'
radio button. In the 'Show words that' dropdown list, make sure the 'begin with the
characters you type' option is selected, then click OK.
Once you return to the Find tab, select the text box at the top and type "Who knows who built this tool?" with quotation marks (Make
sure you capitalize the W and include the question mark.)
Hold down the [Shift][Ctrl] key combination as you click the Clear button.
Now, click the 'Options...' button once more. This time, select the radio button titled
'At least one of the words you type'. In the 'Show words that' dropdown list, choose the
option 'contain the characters you type', then click OK.
In the Find tab, type "The Shadow knows!", without
quotation marks, in the text box at the top. Make sure you capitalize the letters T and S
and include the exclamation point.
Finally, hold down the [Shift][Ctrl] key combination as you click the Clear button. You
should now see the Easter Egg in action.
 | Make the [CAPS LOCK] key sound off |
You can assign a sound to the [Caps Lock] key so that it beeps when you press it. To
use this feature, you must have the Accessibility Options installed. To assign a sound to
the [Caps Lock] key, access Control Panel and double-click the Accessibility Options icon.
When the Accessibility Properties sheet dialog appears, select the Use ToggleKeys check
box in the ToggleKeys panel. Then, to enable the setting, click OK. Now whenever you press
the [Caps Lock] key, you'll hear a beep from your system's tiny built-in speaker. The beep
will be louder when you turn [Caps Lock] on than when you turn it off.
