Not a whole lot new to report, except housing plans have (once again) changed
HOUSING
Current plans are for a pole barn, approximately 18' x 24', with a gambrel roof.  This WILL be our living quarters for the forseeable future - there just isn't enough money/time to build this AND the dome I so badly wanted.  I must have a house up as soon as possible, and I just couldn't hope to get a dome up soon enough.  I'd need a workshop in which to construct the pan
THE "FARM"
I ended up having to pay someone to come out and till up the garden, and it is very very late now, but at least it is done.  This week I will be putting fencing around the garden area and planting the tomato plants and onion sets.  Hopefully I will be putting in the beans, corn, and other direct seeded crops by next weekend.

Due to improper mowing of a bit more than half my pasture area, that mowed section is now a mess of weeds and junk - the native pasture grasses were killed when a standard lawn mower was run over the pasture and mowed down to less than 2" height.  Native grasses shouldn't be mowed lower than 7" to 8" in height.  So now the greater portion of my pasture is pretty much ruined for this season, and likely the next.  There is a research station in Mt. Grove where they are doing a lot of work with native grasses as pasture grasses, I hope to get up there sometime this coming week and get some help with what needs to be done to salvage my pasture.  It's a good thing I'm behind schedule and don't have any livestock yet.  This does pretty much totally destroy my hopes for getting the fence put up in exchange for letting a local farmer run his cows on my pasture for a couple of years - goats might be able to find something edible in that mess, but no self-respecting cow would touch it unless she was starving.

Oh, well, back to the drawing board . . .
