They have a distinctive cry which is well-known and they communicate with an elaborate vocabulary. Mainly nocturnal and found singly or in pairs. Cunning and swift, they lie up during the day under low bushes. Their young are born in antbear holes. Drink water regularly. Sight, scent and hearing are acute. Diet consists of rodents, reptiles, game-birds, insects, eggs, fruit and hares.
