1972 Europa Twin Cam (3)
|
72 Europa TC (1) | I bought this car from the original owner through a posting to Lotus mailing list. It has 34,000 miles on it. The interior is in excellent condition, and the body has only a couple of stress cracks around the left front turn signal. It has never had any body repair, but the engine shows signs of sludge inside the cam cover area, and is leaking oil from both engine and transmission. The car had been sitting for quite some time, and when I tried to start it, the throttle cable would not move. After further inspection of the carbs, I found old gas that had turned into varnish, gumming up the linkage and throttle shafts. I rebuilt the carbs, drained the old fuel, added new fuel, replace the fuel lines, and got it started. It seems to run ok, but I haven't driven it yet. I don't trust the brakes...yet. I started rebuilding the front suspension. I bead blasted all the parts and repainted them. I bought stainless steel brake lines, rebuilt the calipers, new ball joints, rod ends, and bearings, etc. As you can see from the pictures, I have reassembled the front suspension. This only took the better part of a year. Several years ago, I had a pair of brake boosters rebuilt and was going to use them in this car. When I took them out of storage, the seals had failed, and they had to be rebuilt again. This was an expensive lesson. While I was having them rebuilt, I decided to have the master cylinder rebuilt to be on the safe side. This was done at White Post Restorations, and they did a good job. I installed the brake boosters, but have not had time to install the master cylinder. Maybe within the next year. :-) |
