Training

You train your WEBA boxer by sending
an email stating:
(The last two items are just to check that we have the same data as you for your boxer and your $$ budget!)
For example, you might send an email saying:
Becky Boxer will spend $50,000 to add one point to her punching power,
bringing it from 4 to 5
We will make the change to your boxer's setup and debit your WEBA fantasy account. If there is any question about the points score or the dollars, we will contact you by email. Your boxer must sit out one card in order to train.
Please read this carefully before deciding how to train your boxer!
Except for special occasions which will be announced, boxers in training must sit out one card per point added in training, or one card per retraining session if retraining.

WEBA allows fighters who are on big losing streaks to retrain, i.e. to move a few points around in their boxer setups, keeping the overall points totals in Parts 2 and 3 the same. The idea is that fighters who are having a hard time of it can try something inexpensive to compensate for their worst problems without adding to their overall points totals.
A boxer qualifies for retraining if she loses four fights in row, or if she goes six fights without a win (e.g. three losses and three draws, in any order).
Retraining is done by email to WEBA, but the price schedule is simpler: $10,000 for each point moved within Part 2 of the setup, $5,000 for each point moved within Part 3. Other than the costs, there are no restrictions on how many points are moved during a retraining session. Boxers who retrain must sit out one card while doing it.
Note that Control points are not part of the original setup, so are not considered to be Part 2 or Part 3 points. Control Slugger can be exchanged for Control Boxer or vice-versa during a retraining session, but you cannot purchase new Control points while retraining.
Million-Dollar Boxers Training costs double for boxers who have earned more than $1,000,000 in prize money. Boxers at this level can still retrain if they lose four fights in a row, but they must also purchase their retraining points at twice the standard rate, i.e. they can retrain by buying a point at twice the standard retraining rate AND giving up another point from the same part of the setup.
Million-And-A-Half Dollar Boxers Boxers who have earned $1,500,000 in prize money cannot add any more points to their setup by training. Boxers at this level can choose to retrain at any time, but they must purchase their retraining points at the full rate for the point, i.e. they can retrain by buying a point at its normal value AND giving up another point from the same part of the setup (e.g. moving a $30,000 point costs $30,000, moving a $90,000 point costs $90,000).
It's important to realize that the "floors" for skills are not zero. For example, if you originally gave your boxer a power rating of 2 she will have more than half the punching power of a boxer who was given a power rating of 4. Most of the one-point changes you can make during training will change your boxer's ability in the affected area by about 10% to 20%. So you may need a lot of training to completely transform your boxer's style! Don't expect overnight miracles!
And remember that a lot depends on fight-to-fight details. One punch that knocks your opponent down for a nine-count can do more to rearrange her abilities (for a while) than $100,000 worth of your training! Trapping her in a corner is (briefly) worth a big edge in control ... and so on. As in real boxing, a fight can turn on these details more than on how it looked on paper at the opening bell.
All training improves your boxer's chances. But nothing guarantees even that she'll beat a fighter again who she beat once already (the history of the WEBA has many examples of that, one of the best being the first two fights in the Henning-Ling title series, where the most-recently trained boxer lost both times!)
Training is a very important part of the WEBA game! If you have any questions about it, ask us and we'll try to explain it some more. Also check out the WEBA Sim FAQ (answers to frequently asked questions about our sim, many of them about how things in your boxer setups can affect the fights).
