Heather is an Irish-American who began boxing with her brothers as a teenager in Miami. Her first trainer was her father, who gave her the nickname "Hellcat" to match her initials "HC" after watching her spar with her brothers.
Heather got her amateur experience in the Metro-Dade youth boxing program but turned pro in the WEBA before perfecting her ring skills. A tremendous puncher with a hot-headed temperament, Heather had her come-uppance in early fights against good WEBA boxers who exposed her lack of ring sense. But she also fought a huge 15-round battle with world champion Valerie Henning, winning on the only decisive scorecard but failing to obtain the title on a technicality (majority draw rule) in the WEBA's first full-length title fight.
Heather's first trainer Bonnie Canino was critical of her rookie mistakes and said she still had a lot to learn before she was ready for the top ranks. Her well-intended criticism turned sour when Heather went to New Orleans to watch Bonnie defend her WIBF world boxing title against Deirdre Gogarty. Heather partied in the Big Easy while Bonnie worked out; Bonnie wasn't amused. Bonnie used clutch-and-grab and dirty tactics, losing a unanimous decision to Gogarty; Heather wasn't amused. "I coulda beat Gogarty", she said, dreaming of an all-Irish title fight! In her own next fight, Heather had WEBA pretty girl Tammy Quinton in trouble early but let her off the hook. Bonnie had fits while Heather struggled through three rounds dominated by Quinton and was knocked to the canvas for the first time in her career! Heather recovered to kayo Tammy in the fifth, but the verbal fight between Canino and Corrigan left their partnership out cold!
Heather next faced Pam Chai for a WEBA tournament title without any trainer in her corner. Heather fought well and decked the girl who would ;ater become her main WEBA rival. But with several rounds to go, Heather was exhausted by the battering she had taken. Leading on the scorecards, she was kayoed midway through the fifteenth.
Heather was disappointed but she persevered and moved to California to begin training at the Jet Center in Van Nuys, California under Lily Rodriguez, Lily worked on improving Heather's defense, boxing skills, and endurance. Heather since won all of WEBA's Welterweight and Open titles, including spectacular knockouts over Valerie Henning and Pam Chai.
Heather has also fought pitched battles with Tanya Popova, the most dangerous boxer on the Russian Women's Boxing Team and a series of exciting title fights with Bolivian welterweight Balio Frez, who surprised Heather with her boxing skills in several shocking upsets.
Heather eventually returned to Florida and again trains with her father Mike. The Hellcat is known for fighting hard, clean and clever, and for coming back from adversity to win tough fights. One of the WEBA's most durable champions, she has been voted "most admired boxer" in several polls and has been voted onto every international team by the WEBA players. She has had hard fought title series with Cyan Locklear, Jeanette DeCarlo, Rose Mora, Lucille Perkins and Diedre Dornan
