WHO ARE THE SBBS?
The SBBS are the Sydney-Based Broncos Supporters.
We are a group of Rugby League fans who reside in Sydney, but who follow the Brisbane Broncos Rugby League team. We support the Broncos by attending every single Brisbane Broncos game that is played in Sydney and as such offer a support network for other Broncos fans who reside in Sydney.

HOW DID THE SBBS COME ABOUT?
The SBBS was started by Peta Levy in February 1998. She came across Chris Cox's Unofficial Broncos webpage on the internet, and was disappointed to find that there was no Sydney-based Broncos fan club. She therefore decided to start her own.

The SBBS was born on the internet with the help of Chris Cox's Broncos e-mail list. A small no. of Sydney-based Broncos fans were located on this e-mail list, and these people subsequently formed the nucleus of the SBBS. The first SBBS outing was organised for the first Sydney game for the Broncos in 1998, Round 2 (Sunday 22-Mar), at Belmore oval for the Canterbury Vs Broncos clash.

Since this first game, the SBBS have been expanding through the use of the internet, by handing out leaflets at Broncos games (in Sydney), and through word of mouth. Through our sheer determination, we now have over 100 people on our mailing list and consistently get 40+ Broncos fans to each Sydney game.

Considering that the Broncos are the most hated League team in Sydney, it is a surprise to see that so many Sydney-based Broncos fans are out there and that the SBBS is growing so fast!!!

WHY DOES THE SBBS EXIST?
99.9% of Sydney Rugby League fans hate the Broncos, and don't they love to tell us!!! It is very intimidating for Broncos fans to go along to Sydney League games and outwardly cheer for the Mighty Broncs. Some fans simply don't go to the games because they feel so intimidated (they would prefer to support the Broncos from the safety of their lounge chair). Other supporters do go to the games, but the level of support they show for the Broncos is restricted by the animosity they detect from the fans of the opposition team.

By simply sitting with other Broncos fans, Sydney-Based Broncos Supporters (SBBS) feel safe enough to outwardly cheer and support the Broncos. We wear our Broncos jerseys and t-shirts with pride and we're not afraid to wave our flags and cheer as loud we can. The SBBS helps Sydney-based Broncos fans to enjoy seeing the Mighty Broncos wave their Rugby League magic in the flesh, and at the same time meet other Broncos fans who are just as devoted and fanatical!

The SBBS at WIN Stadium, Illawarra on Sunday, 12th July 1998, for the Illawarra Vs Broncos clash.

Our maroon, gold and white flags stand out amongst the die hard Illawarra supporters and help to cheer the Broncos on to a nail-biting win.

WHERE HAVE I HEARD OF THE SBBS BEFORE?
Throughout the 1998 rugby league season, the SBBS obtained a reasonable level of notoriety. We have appeared on FOX Sports Fanatical fans, on Today Tonight (Brisbane edition) because of our Grand Final antics, and Peta Levy (the founder of the SBBS) was featured on the 1 hour documentary "Broncos:Inside the Club" after she flew from Sydney to Townsville for the Broncos Vs Cowboys game (this special was shown on Grand Final day around most of Australia). There has also been an article in The Australian newspaper and photos in Rugby League Week (LINK to King Gee pic).

The SBBS were also featured on almost every Broncos game that was televised on Channel 9 and Pay TV in 1998. Our large maroon, gold and white flags are not hard to miss in a crowd and were often shown at the beginning of games and when the Broncos scored.

You may also have heard of us or seen pictures of us on Chis Cox's homepage or other Broncos web pages. Or you could have been handed an SBBS newsletter/leaflet and any Broncos game played in Sydney in 1998.

WHAT DO THE SBBS DO?
The purpose of the Sydney-Based Broncos Supporters is to support the Broncos and to try and increase the level of support that the Broncos receive in Sydney. We attend every Broncos game played in Sydney (including Canberra and Newcastle) and we try to visibly support the Broncos by waving our flags, and chanting and cheering at each game (you should be able to spot our flags waving when the game starts).

Our usual prime seating position is on the half way line, on the sideline, opposite the players tunnel and TV cameras. To get this prime seating position, some of us will turn up early (often before te gates open) so that we can reserve seats for those Sydney-Based Broncosd Supporters who will arrive later on. The aim (of course) is to get as many Broncos supporters withing a 20m radius as possible, so that we don't feel overwhelmed by the opposition supporters, so that we can spur each other on and make as much noise as possible.

Before the game and at half time, we hand out our SBBS newletters/leaflets to any other Broncos supporters who are at the ground on the day. The newletters contain information on the SBBS, details on the next Broncos game and information on how to get onto the SBBS mailing list (e-mail and postal). The mailing list is a way to unite Broncos fans who live in Sydney. We also wait around after the game so that we can talk to the players, get autographs, take photos and chat to other Broncos supporters. If you see us at any game, come and have a chat!!

WHERE DO YOU GET YOUR FLAGS FROM?
We often get asked where we get our flags from. All of our large, maroon, gold and white flags are home-made and are very easy and cheap to make (ask us for more information if you are interested). We have also started to make banners which consist of white fabric and paint (also cheap and easy)

Some people in the SBBS also have small "offical" flags which they either bought at the grounds ($15.00) or at some retail stores (as low as $7.00 at Peter Wynn Sports). If you are planning on buying one of these flags, it is better to shop around (contact us and we'll give you details).

WHAT KIND OF PEOPLE ARE IN THE SBBS?
People often ask us how a Sydney-sider could support the Broncos... and there are basically two answers to this question. The SBBS consists of an equal number of expat Queenslanders (who for whatever reason now live in Sydney) and true blue Sydney-siders who can't help but appreciate the attacking brilliance of the Brisbane Broncos (they are the greatest team in the world after all!!).

The SBBS also consists of a mixture of families, groups of friends and people who come on their own. Whether you are male or female, young or old, you will feel welcome with the Sydney-Based Broncos Supporters. The only requirement is that you must be totally devoted to the Broncos Rugby League Team!

If you can only attend one Broncos game a year, or if you would like to attend every single Sydney game (even travelling to Newcastle or Canberra), or if you are somewhere in between, we can help you!!!
