BRONCOS FANS OUT OF THE CLOSET
THE ARTICLE BELOW APPEARED IN THE 22-SEP EDITION OF THE AUSTRALIAN (Page 3). STORY BY GEORGINA SAFE.

Most kids wag school to play video games or go to the movies.

But 13 year-old Brisbane Broncos supporter Kandis Levy, who lives in Sydney, yesterday skipped classes to endure the boredom of a chilly, four-hour wait to secure one of 4000 National Rugby League grand final tickets sold in 15 minutes.

"Guys aren't the only ones who like football," she shrugged after the 9am feeding frenzy for Sunday's clash between the Canterbury Bulldogs and the Broncos at Sydney Football Stadium.

"We'll be outnumbered for sure, but it's the match you're wishing for the whole year," said Kandis's mother Peta in anticipation of the showdown.

The pair braved Bulldogs fans armed with sleeping bags and pillows, who had camped out overnight to buy the prized $50 tickets from the Penrith ticketek outlet in Sydney's west.

More than 1000 Broncos fans are expected to make the pilgrimage to the SFS after similar scenes in Brisbane yesterday. Demand for flight and accommodation packages had been "unbelievable", said Gina Butterworth, a consultant in Brisbane for travel agent Traveland.

The reinforcements are welcome news for Peta Levy, who founded the Sydney chapter of the Broncos fan club to unite Brisbane fans frightened to wear their colours to games for fear of abuse or worse. Ms Levy's team is a firm favourite for Sunday's showdown, but after the Bulldogs' 32-20 extra-time victory over Parramatta, even Kandis admits that "anything is possible."
