The actual score was Virginia 33, Florida State 28.
Mike Butler not only called the upset, but came within 3.61 of the actual score to become this week's top prognosticator. Runner-up Scott Mandell (4.00) and third-placer Robert Taylor (7.21) were both at the game.
The top finisher from an ACC domain was Virginia's Jason Martin, sixth with a 25.50. Gary Hodges, tied for ninth at -14.14, was the best forecaster from an FSU domain. Breathing down his neck in eleventh with a -16.00 was the top Wake Forest entry, Stefan Turkheimer. Matthew Grice, 15th at -16.55, made the closest North Carolina call. N.C. State's best prediction ended up 26th at -19.80, and Clemson's best pick was 58th at -50.96. No entries were received from domains at Duke, Maryland, or Georgia Tech. No interest, I guess, altho' it has been alleged that no one at Tech has figured out e-mail yet. By the way, I realize that fans, alumni, and students of the ACC institutions may very well be using accounts with AOL, Prodigy, NetCom, or various other ISPs, but I was just playing with entries that came from domains at the actual institutions.
Defending champion Mike Sukhadwala ended up near the cellar in 52nd place. Robert Taylor's third place finish was tops among former champs, followed by Denise Gardiner in 21st. Of the other past winners, C.R. Ridley was 24th, Lew Saphar was 36th, and Rick Workman was 50th. Three in the top half, three in the bottom half.
