GloveWhat is the WEBA?

The WEBA is a "fantasy" boxing league run by email. The boxers are all female, but players are both male and female.

The league is open to new players only by invitation.

Players create unique styles for their boxers by assigning points for their punching power, accuracy, endurance, ring skills, defense, "chin" etc.. These data generate more detailed boxer setups for a computer simulation that writes blow-by-blow accounts of every fight which are emailed to all players.

All WEBA boxers begin with the same total number of points and with the current sign-on training bonus. Their differences are entirely in the initial skill distributions assigned by their players. Some combinations of skills are particularly "sweet". Boxers compete by challenging other boxers and in occasional mandatory tournaments.

Boxers can improve their skills by "training" using (fantasy) cash payouts from their ring appearances to buy peformance points and improve their setups.

WEBA has four weight classes ... featherweight, lightweight, welterweight and middleweight ... each with its own junior and senior champions. Fighters with 50 bouts or less are eligible for the junior title, but the senior title is open to all. No boxer may hold more than one title simultaneously. If the junior champion also wins the senior title, a tournament will determine a new junior champion..

"World" titles are open to any WEBA player's boxer and to a group of "Russian" boxers generated by the author of the computer simulation. No boxer may hold more than one title at a time, so if a WEBA boxer wins the World title, the WEBA title in her weight class will be vacant.

On regular cards, WEBA will sanction fights between any boxers whose weights differ by no more than 20 lbs. Boxers wishing to fight at a greater weight differential may do so in a special "grudge match" format.

Optional role-play interviews between fights give each boxer a distinct personality.  Each boxer also has a personal profile (short role-play biography, photographs and links to fight record data) to help players scout their competition.

This website is about selecting photos to portray WEBA boxers.

The WEBA News has reviews of recent fights and role-play interviews.

There's also a FAQ page for the league and another for the sim.
