NETHERLANDS ANTILLES

NETHERLANDS ANTILLES / CURAÇAO

Catholicism was introduced in the future Netherlands Antilles as early as 1527, when Spanish priests erected a first church on Curaçao and the islands afterwards became part of the surrounding Spanish jurisdictions (Coro until 1637, Caracas afterwards) In 1715 the Benedenwindse Eilanden became a separate Apostolic Prefecture to which the Bovenwindse Eilanden were formally added in 1827. In 1842 the Prefecture became an Apostolic Vicariate. ____________________________________________________________________________ Vicars Apostolic 1869 - 1886 Petrus Hendricus Josephus van Ewyk, Titular Bishop of Camachus in Armenia III 1827 - 1886 1886 - 1887 Ceslaus H.
