In 1848 the different Antillian islands which the Dutch had conquered in the
course of the 17th century were united into one single colony. (1)
(1) In 1940, after the German conquest of the Netherlands, British and
French troops were posted on the islands to assist the local forces.
In 1942 they were replaced by US troops and a Command All Forces Aruba
- Curaçao was established.
