After work, we all met at Gee's place [his parents were away for the weekend] to rock out with Brint's brand-new 4-track. Around 4am I was exhausted and felt a bit useless, so I went home. It was then I decided that I wasn't really into the whole "Numlock" thing, but I didn't want to get left behind.
In the next few days I started writing songs with Gee's Yamaha keyboards and my ever-so-useful Casio SK-1 sampling keyboard [the voice(es) heard on "Pledge Drive" was Gee recorded onto my Casio and performed by me]. The first of these now trademark tunes is #3 on my side entitled "I Know Derrick Bostrom" inspired by actual events concerning an e-mail conversation with the legendary "Meat Puppets" drummer. I got my trusty Casio, put down some words, pulled out my $20 GE hand-held cassette recorder, and the rest is history. This recording also contains the semi-original version of "Workin' Man's Love Song," not entirely original since I had recorded it by myself then re-recorded with Kyle Mason and Scott Payne at the last minute. I think that was a good idea.
