Hello, I'm Chaospixie (or, Seb). This is my shrine to Outenkun, who is a character in the Japanese manga series Houshin Engi. This shrine was opened on September 24, 2000. I believe this page to be the first english shrine to Outenkun, as I found no other english pages dedicated to Outenkun on any search engines back when I started this page. There were, however, several english pages featuring some small degree of information about Outenkun/Oueki, and several Japanese pages dedicated to Outenkun. Now, many Houshin Engi sites are down, but a few newer english Outenkun-admirers have shown themeslves.

I would like to thank the people on Yahoo's Houshin Engi Club for providing me with some information on Outenkun's situation that I couldn't get myself, being more or less unable to obtain the manga myself. I would also like to thank the people who helped me put a name to the face I was interested in. Thank you! Thank you to all the visiters, to the people who linked to me, and to KINKOSEIBO7923 for additional information!

History of Outenkun, as I know it: (if I get something wrong, or have left something out, please email me and tell me about it! - minor updates - June 21, 2003

Outenkun was supposedly once a regular human, possibly by the name of Oueki, who was found to be a genius and so was taken to be trained by the master Genshitenson. He was Genshitenson's favorite student, but there was a trade of trainees requested between he and another master called Tsu Ten. Tsu Ten's genius prodigy, a half-demon called Youzen, was exchanged with Outenkun. Outenkun was jealous of Youzen's easier life, so took to calling him 'the Prince' in mockery.

In Tsu Ten's custody, Outenkun was kept locked in a small cage, sealed with spells to keep demons out. Tsu Ten knew that Outenkun could be very powerful, and didn't want him to become corrupted or influenced by demons. However, left in the cage, Outenkun became paranoid. He was afraid of the creatures and demons he could see and hear outside of the cage, who taunted him endlessly.

Then, the evil Dakki appeared. She wanted to take control of Outenkun, so she staged getting rid of the demons which plagued him. He came under her guidance, and was transformed into what he is now. He seems to only eat dry pet food and pills (some say vitamins, some say drugs of another sort). His life in the cage, and his diet, mean he is physically weak, but his various powers make up for that. Among these powers is the ability to control a sort of interdimensional video screen effect (which can also be travelled through like a window), and control over robotic virus/bugs which can manipulate other things, including people. Also, his blood is a weapon; he can cause it to pour down from the sky in a poisonous or acidic rain.

But he moved out from Dakki's control to some degree, rising to be the leader of a seperate group (The Juutenkun, or "10 Tenkun", or "10 Heaven-Lord(s)"; the characters in Outenkun's name literally translate as "King-Heaven-Lord", by the way), and played off both sides. He destroyed both of his original teachers (?), and tried to manipulate Youzen to turn on Taikoubou's group. He caused both Mount Konron (where Taikoubou's group lived), and the Kingou Island where the youkai lived. For a time, Outenkun seemed one of the most powerful characters in the series.

And he's cute, too, in a way.

Then, it was all taken away... by the introduction of 'Fukki' late in the manga series (the anime never reached the point in the story where Outenkun was introduced). But we won't talk about that here...

How I First Saw Outenkun

I first saw Outenkun in a mystery doujinshi I had purchased. The doujinshi was entitled 'Just Only You', and featured beautiful artwork (the reason I had bought it!). There was one page with a character that particularly caught my eye. I had no idea even what series this was a doujinshi of, so had no way of even searching for information on who this character might be.

One day, as I was looking at a lot sale of doujinshi, I saw a cover featuring characters similar to those in the mystery doujinshi I had. From there, I discovered that the series was called Houshin Engi, or Senakaiden Houshin Engi. However, upon searching, there was almost no information in english about this series (at the time), so I still didn't know what the character was called.

Slowly, english sites of Houshin Engi started appearing, and I eventually found one with named pictures of this character, and read the first piece of information on him. He was instantly added to my list of favorite characters, and I now had a name to search with. The rest is history.
