Some Personal Thoughts on Skills

Being in the business of buying and selling goods, I have come to realize that Charisma and Appraisal are very important to Traders.  One of the many things we offer is selling gem pouches for others at the various Jewelry Stores.  With high enough skill, a good profit can be made from this due to tips we receive.  Train that Charisma and work that Appraisal.  It will pay off, literally, in the long run.  Another note, here:  When Traders appraise items, the value is given in all three denominations of coin, not just the denomination of the province you are in.  So, when you appraise, you will see values in Kronars, Lirums and Dokoras.

Traders are not necessarily fighters, but we do need Evasion to defend ourselves in our travels all over Elanthia.  The Trade Routes have their inherent dangers, and invasions come along that can put us in jeopardy.  Evasion is required to circle, but the more you have, the better off you are.  Same with weapons.  Take the time to work these skills and you will live to trade another day.

Hiding and Stealing are two skills that should be worked, also.  As a Trader, others know you are carrying coin, therefore Traders are the frequent victims of thieves.  We have a "pouch" that our coins are contained in, however this pouch is not visible in your inventory nor can others see it.  When a Trader is stolen from, the messaging is slightly different.  You will feel your pouch "grow heavier", which is the sign that someone is trying to steal from you.  Depending on your skill levels, you may or may not catch the theif.  I have found it very useful to hide while waiting for a ferry or barge, and then hide again after boarding.  Work your hiding skill as much as you can, and it too, will pay off. Being stolen from is part of life in Elanthia, and coin loss is inevitable for anyone.  Stay aware as much as you can, and work these defensive skills so that your profits will not be hurt too badly.
