Care and Feeding of your Pack Animals and Caravans
Due to recent price increases in the cost of feed, the Guilds will no longer keep pack animals and caravans fed. Your animals need to be fed when your driver says that the last bit of feed has been consumed. Personally, I offer my animals food at each stop to keep them well fed. This is critical to your business because if pack animals and caravans are not fed, they will slow down or stop entirely. Continued neglect will result in starved animals and they will die. In the case of a caravan, it is destroyed. If this happens, your contract is worthless and your reputation will suffer. ALWAYS KEEP YOUR ANIMALS FED. What do they eat, you ask. Any kind of grass (tufts, georin, nilos, hulnik), and apples (rotten or otherwise) are the items I have found so far that the animals will eat. To feed your caravan, hold the food in your right hand and GIVE CARAVAN or GIVE <animal>. Your driver will accept it from you and feed your animals. If you offer an item that the animals will not eat, your driver will inform you. To find your grasses, forage for them. Not only does this insure your business, but works your foraging skill, which is part of your Survival skills group. There are several places to forage for grasses, but as a new Trader, I have found that the Northeast Gate and just west of the West Gate, down the path, are two good areas to begin with.
News Flash!: It seems that our caravan drivers have been imbibing at the Bard's Guild, and there is a risk of running over someone who is lying down, dead or alive. When this happens, usually the "victim" suffers only minor wounds, but some have also suffered death due to poor vitality at the time of the....hit and run. Please note: Traders are not responsible for these accidents, and it is NOT CONSENT TO PvP.
News Flash 2!: Traders now have the ability, at 10th circle, to tie deaders to their caravans to transport them to get help. You can learn this skill from the Shard Trader's Guild leader. Once you have learned, you may TIE <person> to caravan. Be advised that you need a rope.
