In summer '95, there weren't many cheat collections out for the Mac. Sure you
could find stuff on the Internet, but then you had to search and fool
around. There were also stuff with names like "CheatBase", which were worthless, not
many cheats at all, and cost a fortune to! So I decided to make my own
code and cheat collection for the Mac! The first version was in simple text
(v1.0)... and wasn't even put on the Web. It wasn't until v 1.3 or 1.4
(can't remember) that it first took a step onto the Internet! I guess not
many people downloaded it then, (it was only in html). Not until v2.0, (made with
docmaker) which I didn't think would be such a success that people started to
notice it! At that time I didn't have it on the net.. so every single person
had mail me, I got about 20 letters a day! Now the version is 2.8 (there are *NO* codes in any earlier versions of the codebook, that ain't in the new one!). Soon the next version will be released, so be sure to send your cheats in today! Ever since v 2.2, codebook has been a shareware product, and it's cheap, only some cheats/codes for the next version. In January '97, Robert the founder of the Codebook, got an
associate, Sjoerd-Wiemer Sjoerdsma, who is now helping him in producing it. Later on in February '97 Robert hired Or Tuttnauer from Israel to help program the entire codebook in HTML.

(Beezle Note: As shown above Robert is the maker of the famous Codebook which is one of the most comprehensive listing of game cheats on the Web if not the most. To download it be sure to check out his page.)

Next version of the Codebook. Coming soon.

"Me" (Carl Backstrom) is a, presently, seventeen years old boy with some spare time, or a little of it anyway. I've until this date released two - four programs in the category "accepted and sometimes popular" and a few other things in the category "at least something but worth nothing". I'm now a full-time worker this spring, so I haven't had the time to upgrade the programs as I wanted to, but I plan to do that ASAP. More information could probably be found on the webpages, personal stuff and the software.
The first program was released about a year ago to the public, and the most
successful ones since then are HTML Vocabulary and Mailto Converter, both
awarded with some stuff-of-the-week and similar logos, and added onto a
couple of CD's in magazines and books.
The name 'Nisseb softwares' (with a 's' ending, yes) comes from the
Swedish nickname 'Nisse', but I don't know why I chose it. It's unique
anyway, so I kept it. If everything goes as I want, I'll start my own
company later this year, registering the name Nisseb as a corporation name.
So far, it's mostly a hobbie.

Projects:
Upgrade his many programs.

The company I (Carl Huben) use for shareware stuff is, "Huben Consulting, Inc." I also
work through this company as a Mac programming consultant; that's how I spent
most of my time. Also, that's why I currently only support two shareware
programs, "SurfSim 1.0" and "CD Equalizer + Karaoke 3.1".
Products:
(Beezle Note: As shown above, Carl supports "SurfSim 1.0" and "CD Equalizer + Karaoke 3.1" which can be downloaded from his Web site.)
Projects:
I don't know at the moment whether there will be future titles.
(Beezle Note: Well, I hope Carl does decide to produce more quality shareware. From BeezleWare, Carl, keep up the good work.)

I'm not really a company. I (Sandra) am a mom that got hooked on Hypercard and made some games for my younger daughter. When I got a website up and running, I
decided to share what I had done with anyone who was interested in some
colorful simple games for non-readers. I have recently (in the last 6
months) gone over to the Supercard platform to make goodies. All my stuff is freeware.
(Beezle Note: This is another great children's site, but for "Mac children" rather then PC. Not only is the software on this site entertaining for children but the award-winning site itself has many other goodies and such for children of all platforms.)
Products:
(Beezle Note: be sure to check out the Web site to download any of the software.)
My current releases include Color Time, Dollhouse Time, Haunted Dollhouse
Time, Supper Time and Calendar Time. I also try to put up something for the
current holiday, but do not keep these programs available for much longer
than 6 weeks or so due to a current lack of disk space.

About me and my company:
Quadratic Software consists of one person (me -- Graham Herrick). I've been
programming off and on for about 15 years. I've been a Mac user since 1984.
But it wasn't until around 1992 that I started learning how to program
specifically for the Mac. I wrote a lot of miscellaneous little things for
myself. Then, in 1995, while I was in grad school, I decided that one of
those things, "Addiction Manager," might be both humorous and useful for
other people. So I decided to release it publicly (in early 1996). That's
how I got started with being a shareware author.
My shareware business has grown considerably over the past year. I've
released four more shareware titles and one freeware title. And within a
few days I will be releasing my latest shareware utility, called "Sloop." I
gave my business the name "Quadratic Software" in March of 1997. The
business is now almost a full-time occupation for me (from 11 pm to 7 am!).
I'm quite committed to the philosophy behind shareware. I think it's a
great way to distribute programs and also wonderful for users. It's also
fun for me. Anyway, there's some more info about me (and my cat) on my web
site if anyone is interested.
Products:
(Beezle Note be sure to check out the Quadratic Software page to download the software.)
Here are my current releases with their "standard" descriptions. Some of
them are available in multiple languages (English, Japanese, Swedish,
German, French, and soon Spanish and Portuguese). They are all available
for download from the Quadratic web site.
Sloop:
Sloop is a MacOS extension that implements a unique window navigation
strategy: cursor focusing. With cursor focusing, whatever window or
application the mouse is over comes to the foreground without the need to
click the mouse button. Sloop increases productivity, is customizable,
stable, and small.
Finder Windows:
Have you ever wished that the Finder had a simple "Window" menu like many
other applications? Finder Windows is a control panel that adds a "Window"
menu to the Finder. You can now see a list of all the Finder's open
windows, choose among them, stack them, and arrange them.
ClipAppend:
ClipAppend is a simple control panel that extends the functionality of
cutting and copying text to the Macintosh clipboard. Usually, when you cut
or copy something to the clipboard, you replace whatever is there. But with
ClipAppend, you can add text to the clipboard instead of replacing text.
KeyCommander:
Don't you hate it when applications don't have command-key equivalents for
some frequently-used menu items? KeyCommander is a control panel that lets
you fix that problem by allowing you to add command-key equivalents to
applications.
Sokoban 3D:
Sokoban 3D is a game based on the original 2D Sokoban which involves
pushing boxes around a maze. In Sokoban 3D, you view the maze from a
first-person, 3D perspective.
FileMerger:
FileMerger is drag-and-drop utility that quickly merges files together.
It's useful for merging segmented files that have been downloaded from
Usenet or for merging large data files.
Addiction Manager:
Addiction Manager is a program for managing addiction to computer games,
the Internet (that means you, web surfer!) and other stuff.
Projects:
I spend a lot of time updating and maintaining my current programs. But I
also have a bunch of ideas for future shareware projects. One of these is
about half finished right now so look for another new product announcement
by summer of 1997.
General:
I'm an independent Macintosh shareware programmer and contract developer. I
currently have the following programs available on my Web site:
Products:
(Beezle Note: Go to Karl Bunker's Homepage to download his software.)
FloorTiles:
A game is of the puzzle/arcade variety, somewhat akin to Tetris, but totally
unique and original. In FloorTiles you place 2-color (or 2-pattern, on B&W
monitors) tiles on a grid and try to match colors with already-placed tiles.
Very simple to learn, but fun and challenging to play. Shareware; $12.00.
Snavely!:
A new, completely original arcade game. In Snavely it is your job to control
two big-nosed, wriggly snakes. You have to keep them from wandering off the
edge of the playing board, and maneuver them so they cross paths, creating an
"egg" and scoring points. Shareware; $15.00.
Deco:
Another puzzle/arcade game, again based on an entirely original concept. In
Deco you drop thin, rectangular, multicolored pieces onto a square board. The
board, along with the pieces you've dropped so far, can be rotated 90
degrees. By dropping pieces onto a rotated board, you can make pieces cross
each other. The goal is to make pieces of the same color cross, and avoid
crossing pieces of different color. Shareware; $15.00.
Barney Blaster:
Barney Blaster may be the most popular freely distributed Mac After Dark
module ever. It has been downloaded many thousands of times times on AOL,
raved about in Computer Player, ComputerEdge and Computer Life magazines,
tied for first place in the California Computer Expo's 1995 "Weird Software"
contest, featured on the c|net central TV show, and enjoyed by hundreds of
thousands of Mac users world wide. In Barney Blaster, every non-toddler's
least favorite dinosaur hops around, chuckles happily, and then suffers some
major violence. Freeware.
MultiTimer:
A utility for keeping track of the time spent on any projects, tasks, jobs or
pastimes performed on the Mac. It will be of particular interest to those who
do freelance work for an hourly rate, but will also be useful for such things
as tracking the time spent on commercial online services, or any number of
other things. The emphasis in MultiTimer is on ease of use. Many powerful
features are available, but everything is designed to be easy and intuitive.
Shareware; $15.00.
Projects:
I'm working on a couple of new projects now, but I don't want to pre-announce
anything -- I'm not sure how these projects will work out, or when they'll be
released.

After going through the messages I received from these individuals and companies the first thing that struck me was just how different each one was. If you read each of the bios you too will notice it. I think this difference, the vast range in who creates the shareware we use, is one of the reasons for it's continuing success, and a reason for why we, on the Net, should work to make sure that the shareware revolution does not die. Ever. On that note I would like to remind all of you, who download from these authors or from any shareware creators, to please pay the requested fees. Support quality shareware on the Net. Thank you and happy downloading.
Cheers!
Beezle.
