First
Grand Fournier Family Reunion
28 & 29 August 1999 in Montmagny
The Association of the Fournier's of America is presently organising its first grand Fournier family reunion to be held on August 28th and 29th in Montmagny, Quebec.
All association members and their families are invited to the festivities.
The reasons we have chosen the town of Montmagny to be host city for this first grand Fournier family reunion are:
First of all, Montmagny is a prosperous and cordial little town where it's people are anxious to welcome us. Such a heart warming welcome was notice when we met with city official's, the clergy and other community service people who are all welling and ready to support us in making sure that are festivities and stay in there town will be enjoyable. I invite you to visit
Montmagny and you will see for yourself the friendliness of it's people. The greater Montmagny area, Cap St-Ignace and the Bellechasse sector are places where at least four of the Fournier roots met and some were even united in wedlock.
Guillaume Fournier and his wife Françoise Hébert, were the pioneers of Montmagny. They arrive in 1672 and we know that Guillaume and Françoise donated a large porton of their land to the St-Thomas de la Pointe à la Caille parish, so that a chapel and rectory could be built for its people.
A son of Nicolas Fournier and Marie Hubert, Jacques Fournier married to Françoise Blanchon, settle at St-Étienne de Beaumont. A few of their descendants settle in the Montmagny area in or about 1825.
Pierre Fournier, another ancestor, and Françoise Couture, who were married in 1743 at St-Étienne de Beaumont, settled down at St-Thomas de la Pointe à la Caille in 1748.
Joseph Fournier and Françoise Carlos who were married in 1761 at Cap St-Ignace, stayed there all of their lives. They were the first ancestors of the fourth root of Fournier's to live in this beautiful region.
We, the Fournier's of today, wherever we live accross north America, our proud of our roots that stem from this beautiful region where our ancestors claimed and deforest in order to survive before spreading their roots any further.
The year 1999 coincide's with the 300th anniversary of the death of the first ancestor Guillaume Fournier , and the festivities will give us the opportunity to commemorate this event.

To Fournier's Families of America,
In the early days of the colony, your ancestor, Guillaume Fournier, loaned his house to the first magnymontois ( people of the Montmagny region
) to use for religious services. In the manner of this honorable pioneer, we will have the honour of welcoming you in our town on august 28th and 29th, 1999.
We are collaborating with the organizers of the Family Reunion of les Fournier d'Amérique to ensure that you will be warmly welcomed in Montmagny. We are confident that your short stay in the white goose capital will allow you to step back in your history to your roots. We hope that immersing yourselves in such a setting, will give you a taste or revisiting your roots here with us in the future.
The members of the town council join with me in urging you to respond to this invitation of the organizers who are putting so much into this reunion. We extend this invitation together for you to come meet us here, and we promise to experience this reunion with you.
Please accept our heartfelt greetings,
Mayor
