Original Review

Next to James Horner's STAR TREK II: THE WRATH of KHAN, this is my absolute favorite STAR TREK score. Goldsmith created the best STAR TREK theme and he doesn't mind using it throughout the entire score. This is a very dynamic soundtrack, and very dark in several tracks. These dark, foreboding songs undertone the scenes where The Borg are wreaking their evil on the Enterprise.

Coming hot on the heels of his equally amazing Africanesque THE GHOST and the DARKNESS, this score is thrilling and unique. It doesn't sound anything like the other STAR TREK scores, minus the fact he also scored #1 and #5. This release is an Enhanced CD, which means it contains an Interactive CD-ROM portion you can play on your computer. If your computer meets all of the requirements listed on the insert, the CD-ROM part is quite interesting. In it, you can walk the decks of the new Enterprise and see interviews of Jerry Goldsmith and director Jonathan Frakes. Really neat.

GNP Crescendo Records always release some of the best score CDs on the market, and this one doesn't stray from this reputation. Jerry Goldsmith has remained one of my top favorite film composers over the years. With a stupendous release like STAR TREK: FIRST CONTACT, it looks like he will always have his place there.
