The second track that I mentioned is the finest piece on the album. "The Flying Circus" is its name. Everything gleefully bounces along as if you were soaring through the air close to the tent top with the acrobats. Almost two minutes before the song concludes, Horner throws in a brief interlude of a mouth harp. It initially threw me off guard, but it did so in a good way. That is the part of the song I truly anticipate every time I listen. Another rollicking action track is the final battle scene music titled "The Zeppelin." What a way to wrap up the movie. Never a low point in this track.
I'm sorry to say but this is sadly one of James Horner's more overlooked soundtracks. For what strange reason I don't know. My only complaint about this release is the addition of two period piece songs. Not that they're bad or anything, but they disrupt the continuity of Horner's score. Everything in this score works. THE ROCKETEER is one of the best things that has ever happened to my collection.
