Original Review

One of the greatest soundtracks in my entire collection!!! The theme to THE LOST WORLD menacingly rumbles its way to life and strikes you in the face with its acute construction and leaves you feeling breathless afterward. These details are the ingredients to a classic John Williams score. There are many different types of music on this release: action, suspense, horror, and drama. On the action sequences of this score, Williams has created 2 or 3 fabulous chase cues. The best one being the sequence where the T-rex runs amok in San Diego. Highly enthralling. The suspense comes near the beginning when the little girl experiences just how nasty the little but lethal compys can be.

As for the horror aspect of the score, Williams is a complete genius here. During the scene where the man is being viciously pursued and attacked by the compys, the music is so dramatic and frightening I still can't beleive how much the music affected me by itself. The original JURASSIC PARK themes are almost non-existent here; for the exception of short, echoing moments in various tracks and the end credits suite. This is as it should be because there are hardly any scenes of amazement and magical wonder in this film. The only uplifting part of the entire score is the music accompanying the scene where Sarah Harding, Ian Malcolm, and the others are spellbound by the presence of the herd of stegosaurus making their way up the river.

There are about four seperate and very noticable themes that pop up throughout the score. They are: the Lost World theme, the raptor's drum-driven theme, the compy's menacing theme, and the T-rex's booming theme. Each one is unique and very effective in their own way. These do not include the original JURASSIC PARK themes. After a few recent soundtrack hits and misses, THE LOST WORLD returns John Williams to the kind of score that fans everywhere love to listen to.
