Sources, Citations, Bibliography
A listing of any sort of problems having to do with any aspect of FTM's
Master Source facility.

Bibliography
|
|
-
 The
Bibliography Report does not fully alphabetize entries. They are
alphabetized by author only. If the list contains more than one source
by a particular author, his individual works will be listed in accidental
order. Fittingly, this applies to FTM's own
WFT CD-ROMs, which will not necessarily appear in the order
of their Volume numbers.
-
The Bibliography Report
does not list unreferenced sources. There should be an option to
do this as there is no way to discover this except on an individual source.

Formatting of
the Bibliography Standard Report makes it very difficult
to use, as there is no spacing between
items nor indenting of continuation lines.

Citations
|
|
-
Imported GED files that have source
citations ("2 SOUR @...@") without matching definitions ("0 @...@ SOUR")
result in blank citations which point to no Master Source. In these cases
a Master Source should be created for each such missing definition. The
source id ("@...@") could be used as the unique title.

|
-
The printed citations in GenRpts do not use the
common Latin abbreviations to reduce the amount of space (and ink!) that
they consume. One sees a
long list
of identical two- or three-line citations, with only the page numbers perhaps
being different. Use of Op. cit.,
Ibid., and Idem.
would make the endnote list much more useable.

Master Sources Dialog provides no display
of the number of citations for each source. You must Delete one
to see how many referents it has, and push the "No" button on the
warning dialog.
-
The Master Source dialog refers to a
"Source Media", which is incorrect. The correct word is "Medium", which
is singular, "Media" being plural.

-
There is no process to Merge Master Sources.
If you have sources that you wish to merge, you must invoke Merge Duplicate
Individuals.
-
Duplicate Master Sources cannot be merged
if there are more than two replicates.

The default button
shown on the Delete Master Sources warning dialog is always "Yes".
It should be "No" if there are referents, and "Yes" only if there are zero
referents.

Version 6 change: Master sources
with referents cannot be deleted at all! |

-
Multiple citations
may
be entered for each element but, once entered, may not be reordered. It
is unusual to be able to plan your source discoveries in the order in which
you wish them to be displayed in your reports.
-
When entering a new
name, one cannot enter the source citation for that name until the
cursor is moved to a different field and back again. The name field
is unique in this respect.
