FTM will
reuse a citation number, but only if the citation is identical to
the previous one in every respect, including the page number. So the secret
is to increase the likelihood that your successive citations match:
-
First of all, the citations MUST be to the same Master Source. If
your citations alternate between different sources, there is no hope.
-
If the source is short, or indexed or arranged in a way to obviate the
need for a page number, don't include one.
-
Refer to groups of related pages, as "pp.203-207", or where the grouping
is obvious, "p.203ff". This can be done even if the pages are scattered:
"p.203,207,311"
-
Refer to the chapter instead of the page(s).
The idea of a citation is to make it possible for a researcher using your
work to find your sources. Making that a little bit more difficult
is no big deal. |
