- Initialization: Installation of FTM hijacks both the ".ged" file type extension association and insists on its own icon. [RGE] While it is not uncommon for a program to do this sort of thing on installation, FTM goes that one step over the line by usurping the association every time it is invoked, undoing the user's reversal. As the .ged extension does not "belong to" FTM, this behavior is generally considered reprehensible.
- FTM will not read a "Read Only" file. Accessing a file and making no changes whatever changes the file, and the file date.
- File compression (CTL+ALT+C) has been observed to actually increase file size from 461.311MB to 606.527 MB!
