Vanilla Sugar

This is a really neat idea. Last year I got some pretty cannisters and gave these away for presents. If I remember right, I believe I got this idea from a Martha Stewart magazine. Anyway, here it is!

  • Sugar
  • Vanilla Bean
Just cut up the vanilla bean and mix it with the sugar. You can put the mixture in mason jars and make pretty cross stitch pieces to fit under the lids. This is great in coffee!

Cinnamon Ornaments

I like this recipe for cinnamon ornaments because they are baked at a low temperature. The whole house smells wonderful!

  • 1 cup cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup applesauce
  • ground cloves (optional)

Mix together all of the ingredients. Roll out dough to about 1/4 inch thickness. Cut out shapes with small cookie cutters. Use a drinking straw to make the holes to hang the ornaments. Bake in 250 degree oven for about an hour or so. When they are cool, decorate them with squeezable paint and place ribbons through the holes to hang your ornaments. These ornaments will last many years and they can also be used as gift tags on presents.
