Meet 'O' (Sorimachi Takashi), the #1 urban soldier of fortune in Asia, a typical strong trigger-puller -- he never even speaks to his housekeeper Chin (Kelly Lin), with whom he actually has been in love for more than a year, despite the obvious roadblock to that direction, namely that he only meets her when paying her wages. Killing, to him, is a routine, and has to be done as efficiently as possible; a positively utilitarian person, that's how he lives, too, and that, rather lamentably, is also how he does interior-design. |

And then there is Tok (Andy Lau), the #2 Asianwide assassin; a blast to be with, very attractive even though he talks too much. Tok lives fast and he wants O dead. Not only for the reason Antonio Banderas wants to drill holes all over Sylvester Stallone in The Assassins; he starts getting into O's orbit because his older brother sends him there for a silly revenge of the brother's own. Craving everyone's attention even when killing (imitating every action movie he ever watched -- Patrick Swayze/Keanu Reeves' Point Break in the case of the Bill Clinton mask, Arnold Schwarzenegger's Terminator with the big bike, Antonio Banderas' El Mariachi, Jean Reno's La Femme Nikita, even an Alain Delon movie of your mom's time, etcetera), Tok seems to win Miss Chin, too, along the way. One of the tricks that works is this: O always brings Chin a customized Snoopy each time he went abroad for a job; Tok rescues the collection from the Interpol HQ and adds the Hong Kong Snoopy that Chin has wanted. The SAR operation of the Snoopies sends the cop played by Simon Yam to nervous disorder. And the ending of the movie might invite you to join Mr. Yam, for that matter. |
