NAKAMURA TORU
'Toru' means 'clear and resonant' -- as in voice (or noise, for that matter). I really have no idea why I clearly and resonantly love this man -- the perhaps closest image of the stereotypical salaryman threading routine paths of Tokyo, as far as actors are concerned -- it just happens. Nakamura Toru isn't a much-hyped element of the biz. Here he co-stars the best-looking Korean actor Jang Dong-gun (see the only pic below) in a confusing scifi flick that I nevertheless watched several times above the sane occurence (namely, never). I even put up with 'The Making of-' disk, which, although it is better than the movie, doesn't deliver any speech of Nakamura's at all. This is a bilingual movie, where the bad guys speak Japanese and the good ones speak Korean (I'm not kidding). It doesn't matter. Nothing does. I just love him. |
