This is a collection of photographs taken on our holidays to Landscove Holiday Park, Brixham, Devon between 2004 & 2005.
Brixham is at the southern end of Torbay and is a favourite holiday destination for us. It is easy to get to by train as nearby Paignton is on the Inter-City rail network, which is important as I never bothered learning to drive. I prefer to travel by public transport.
I like Brixham as it is still a working fishing port as well as being a popular tourist attraction. It also has it’s own Napoleonic Forts on nearby Berry Head and some lovely coastline, all within walking distance.
Nearby is the Paignton & Dartmouth Steam Railway and Goodrington Sands.

Stanton Drew

A friend of mine from the Netherlands came to visit Warminster and stayed at nearby Hunter’s Moon Holiday Park.
As we had a common interest in ancient history it was decided to visit the stone circles at Stanton Drew, Somerset. These Neolithic henges may not be as well known as Stonhenge but are just as interesting in my opinion. They have the added advantage that visitors are welcome to walk amongst the stones at will.
Of course, the day would not have been complete without a meal - and a refreshing drink - at the village public house, the Druid’s Arms.
It was a very successful day trip, I think.

The Lake District, 2006

During February 2006 my wife and I went for a week’s holiday with my brother and his wife. We stayed at a place called Whitbarrow between Keswick and Penrith.
This is the first, and so far, only time I have visited the Lake District as it is not easily reached by public transport. We used my brother’s car instead.
Some people might think that February is not the right time to visit this part of the UK, but we were very fortunate with the weather and the views are just as stunning in the middle of winter as they are in the summer. Having said that, I really would like to go back there in the summer months.

Red Bull air race, Longleat, 2006

The 2005 Red Bull air race at Longleat had been a great success, but the 2006 air race was not. Terrible weather on the day of the race meant that all the aircraft were grounded and the race cancelled.
During the week leading up to the race it had been a different story. Good flying weather meant that all the practice races and rehearsals went ahead as planned.
On my day off work I took my wife & son to Longleat and took the opportunity to watch these practice races. It was just like watching the final event without the crowds.
When I took these pictures there must have been less than 25 people watching the racing, and it didn’t cost me a single penny.

Steam Trains in Devon, 2007

Our 2007 holiday was at Waterside Park, Goodrington , Devon.
As you can see from the attached photograph the Paignton & Dartmouth Steam Railway runs right by Waterside. Our caravan was just outside the edge of this photograph and had a lovely view across the railway line and Torbay.
The P&DSR is not the only steam railway in the area.
The South Devon Railway also operates steam engines and runs from nearby Totnes. My son and I took the chance to visit the SDR whilst on holiday at Waterside.

Dawlish Warren & Dawlish, 2008

2008 saw us on holiday at Dawlish Warren, South Devon, just a couple of miles from Dawlish town.
This stretch of coast is famous for it’s sandy beaches and the South West mainline railway between London and Cornwall, which follows the coast at this point. The red cliffs and blue sea make it a very picturesque spot for photographers and train spotters alike.
The sea wall between Dawlish & Dawlish Warren follows the railway line and is a lovely way to walk between the two. However, as the footpath is at beach level for part of the way, it is not a good idea to use the sea wall at high tide and in stormy weather.
