1. Martin Readigan was born in County Kilkenny, Ireland. He died 1 on 21 Nov 1827 in St. John's, NF. The cause of death was visitation of God (heart attack).
Martin Readigan is not recorded in the Ferryland Census of 1800 so it appears that he arrived in Ferryland District sometime between that 1800 and 1809.

Surrogate Court - Ferryland - 1809: Martin Reddigan fined £3. 3. 0 (three pounds, three shillings) for assaulting Walter Wallice and burning two of his shirts.

To the Right Honourable Lord GoderichSecretary of State for the Colonies
Reports having reached us that it is the Intention of his Majesty's Government to impose a duty upon all articles imported into this Island; and that an increase of Duties on Spirits is also contemplated. We the principal, but poor Inhabitants of this place, humbly beg to remonstrate against the intended measure; and we Implore of your Lordship's most serious consideration of the depressed state to which we are already reduced, from continued unsuccessful Voyages in the Fishery for we do with truth assert, that if the intended measures takes place and greater burthens laid on us, that it will be impossible for us to subsist.
We confidently hope that your Lordship's quiry into, and faithful representation of these facts, that the intended measures will be abandoned; and in Duty bound we shall ever pray.

A few months later on November 21, 1927, a St. John's newpaper, The Newfoundlander, carried the following news item.
Melancholy Occurrence - A poor man, belonging to Caplin Bay, named MARTIN REARDIGAN, went into one of the stores of Messrs. JAMES STEWART & Co., for the purpose of purchasing some Molasses, and while in the act of receiving it from the Storekeeper, fell down and instantly expired. An inquest was immediately held before Mr. L.L. CHANCEY, coroner - Verdict, died by the visitation of God.
------------------------------------------
Two and a half weeks after Martin's death, Richard Reddigan of Caplin Bay sold the dwelling house, fishing flakes and stages at Brewin' Cove, Aquaforte to Andrew Morrisson, surgeon, Ferryland for £51. 8. 9 (fifty one pounds, eight shillings, and nine pence) - Registry of Deeds- Southern District - Volume 1 - Folio 47.
They had the following children:
+ 2 M i Richard Reddigan 3 F ii Mary Readigan was born 1 in County Kilkenny, Ireland. She died after 1865 in St. John's, NF. Mary married 1 John Mullaly on 11 Nov 1825 in Ferryland. NF. John was born 2 in County Kilkenny, Ireland. He died after 1865 in St. John's, NF.
The old marriage record is unusual because it is on a pre-printed form in a misc. book of marriages. It reads:
Marriage solemnized at 'Aquafort' in the Island of Newfoundland. This is to Certify That 'John Mullaly of Co. Kilkenny Ireland' and 'Mary Readigan of said County' were Married at 'Ferryland' this '11 of November' in the Year of our Lord 182'5'. By me, 'Timothy Browne, Clergyman in Holy Orders'.
This marriage was solemnized between us, 'John----X----Mullaly' - ' Mary----X----Readigan'
In the presence of us, 'John Condon' - 'Mary----X----Walsh' - Witnesses present at the said Marriages.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
John and Mary Mullaly lived on the southside of Ferryland in the area known as the Alley. Based on the Voter's List for Ferryland, it appears that they moved to St. John's between 1852 and 1855. On Sept. 5, 1865, they sold their house and property at Ferryland to William Reid. (Registry of Deeds - Southern District - Volume 5 - Folio 73). It does not appear that John and Mary had any children.
